Yesterday, against Orient, the playing area of Roots Hall appeared narrower by 18" to 2 foot each side. For sure the linos had more "line" space.
This also, IMO, lead to our corners being taken better with an easier step off and up.
The corners were better but other set pieces appear devoid of any preparation.

I think it will be to improve the space for corner kicks ........ although I'm not sure why they can't "build up" the corner area a little.

couldn't they just have kept the original width but just go in abit at each corner? You know keep it subtle so no one notices?

I reckon a few of the players may have asked for a bit more room at the edge of the pitch. I've always thought it looks dangerous with a drop off so close to the pitch, and I'm sure Julian Bennett's career probably agrees.

The goal lines appear unchanged so there is no extra run off into North/South perimeters.
The corner areas have been built up over last few years BUT every time the pitch is resurfaced it seems to rise 6" over the track side - do they mainly lay the new turf over the old dug up stuff?
We didn't have many corners but Tims seemed to get them over ok. I can't recall who took those from the other side, if we had any.
As I said in post #1 the other set pieces seemed devoid of idea or practice -unless it is a cunning plan to save a Mr B master class for a "real" game!

If our players find it difficult to take corners with that slope then they should practice more at Roots Hall. It could have been a good advantage as away teams would struggle more.
