There has been a lot of controversy over who should be player of the year this season as no-one has really stood out but I am going to use statistics to try and find a worthy winner using games played and sub appearances, goals conceded while on the pitch, goals scored, goals conceded per game, goals scored per game and assists. The best player in each position is in bold and the player with the best for each statistic is in red, 0 does not count and not goals conceded as this is affected by how many games the player has played. I have not included loanees as they can't be voted for in the player of the year vote but I might try and get their stats later.

Apps, GC, GS, GCPG, GSPG, Assists, Points gained while playing
Goalkeepers:
Steve Mildenhall: 39 (0), 54, 0, 1.38, 0, 0, 51
Ian Joyce: 2 (1), 3, 0, 1, 0, 0, 9
Clark Masters: 0 (0), 0, 0, 0, 0, 0, 0
Do I need to explain why Mildy got best player for this 1?

Defenders:
Simon Francis: 40 (9), 65, 1, 1.33, 0.02, 4, 50
Osei Sankofa: 25 (5), 26, 0, 0.87, 0, 0, 32
Peter Clarke: 48 (0), 65, 6, 1.35, 0.13, 0, 66
Dorian Dervite: 16 (0), 14, 0, 0.88, 0, 1, 36
Adam Barrett: 50 (0), 69, 3, 1.38, 0.06, 1, 64
Johnny Herd: 10 (1), 15, 0, 1.36, 0, 4
Peter Clarke selected as best player as he had a very high goals per game for a defender, only missed 3 games and has an average-ish goals conceded per game

Midfielders:
Kevin Betsy: 33 (13), 64, 3, 1.6, 0.06, 7, 28
Damien Scannell: 8 (14), 32, 1, 1.45, 0.05, 0, 15
Justin Hazell: 0 (1), 0, 0, 0, 0, 0, 0
Femi Orenuja: 0 (1), 1, 0, 1, 0, 0, 0
Alan McCormack: 28 (8), 40, 2, 1.11, 0.06, 2, 37
Jean Francois Christophe: 34 (4), 50, 3, 1.32, 0.08, 1, 42
Anthony Grant: 27 (13), 52, 1, 1.3, 0.03, 2, 32
Franck Moussa: 25 (2), 29, 2, 1.3, 0.07, 2, 41
Stuart O'Keefe: 1 (3), 4, 0, 1, 0, 0, 0
No best player chosen. Kevin Betsy leads on assists but Christophe leads on goals scored per game (it shocked me too). Macca and Scannell both have low goals conceded per game too.

Strikers:
Lee Barnard: 27 (10), 49, 10, 1.32, 0.27, 3, 38
Theo Robinson: 18 (1), 19, 7, 1, 0.37, 2, 36
Dougie Freedman: 11 (6), 24, 5, 1.41, 0.29, 4, 19
James Walker: 11 (10), 37, 4, 1.76, 0.19, 2, 10
Alex Revell: 23(5), 42, 4, 1.5, 0.14, 4, 18
Francis Laurent: 11 (13), 36, 4, 1.5, 0.17, 0, 11
Paul Furlong: 2 (2), 4, 0, 1, 0, 0, 3
Charles Ademeno: 1 (3), 3, 0, 0.75, 0, 0, 1
Theo Robinson selected as best player due to his high goals per game ratio and quite a high assisst count considering he has played less than half of the games some players have.

Interestingly if Theo Robinson had played as many games as Lee Barnard he would probably be on 14 goals.

Obviously the stats don't tell the whole story and players like Adam Barrett, Dorian Dervite and Franck Moussa would be up with more of a shout if it had performance ratings too but due to Theo only being her since January I would say that the stats suggest what many people already thought; that it's between Mildy and Clarkey.

EDIT Loanees
Adam Federici: 10, 15, 0, 1.5, 0, 1, 16
Mildy actually had a better goals conceded per game ratio than Feds.
Junior Stanislas: 9 (0), 11, 3, 0.82, 0.33, 1, 3
Lee Sawyer: 12 (1), 23, 3, 1.77, 0.23, 1, 22
Dan Harding: 20 (0), 31, 1, 1.55, 0.05, 2, 25
Hal Robson Kanu: 13 (2), 29, 2, 1.93, 0.13, 3, 16
Liam Feeney: 0 (1), 3, 0, 3, 0, 0, 0
Robert Milsom: 6 (0), 8, 0, 1.33, 0, 0, 4
And
Nicky Bailey: 1 (0), 0, 0, 0, 0, 0, 3
