Being serious, it's becoming a situation where the shock value is diminishing, the 'papers after all must want attention-grabbing headlines.

Or alternatively society is no longer as violent so isolated incidents now have greater shock value and therefore make the front page when a couple of decades ago they wouldn't have been front page and only incidents in well-to-do areas would be reported on.

For example, most people would agree that you are less likely to get a kicking attending a football match in the 2010s than in the 1970s. Would a one man pitch invasion (such as that **** who went after Grealish) have made headlines in the 70s?

Would the Simon Dobbin trial have attracted as much attention in the 70s?
