SOUTHEND United could lose close to £700,000 if they are forced to play their remaining matches behind closed doors.

Don’t get that? How many home games do we have left? 5 Or 6? That’s over 100k income per match. So what happened to the 350k from those 3 games in a week.

Notice that he said 700k from 'ticket sales alone', I suspect when you deduct the cost of policing, stewards etc that 700k gets a lot smaller.

That will be the official excuse for Ron in court, suspiciously close to the £668k he owes HMRC

Surely if every League 1 & 2 club ( plus many in the Championship ) have to play their remaining home games behind closed doors, they'd all go bust??.

That’s 7, 750 tickets sold at a average cost of 18 each for the 5 remaining matches. Add in season tickets and that’s 11,000 attendances for the rest of the season. Amazing.
Complete opposite when Anton Johnson was there, Tonight’s attendance 2106, at least 5000 . The good old days when cash was king!

Heard on Irish radio this evening that if EFL playing behind closed doors then all matches would be accessible on I Follow. (Way of getting clubs some income)Anyone else heard this ??

Simon Jordan was saying gate receipts for a league 1 club is circa 30% of income

What the EFL should do is abolish the playoffs for this one season and go with straight relegation and promotion. Only 4 teams affected by income that way.this would mean they could suspend games for 2 or 3 weeks and the play to till the playoff finals would be held meaning 4 weeks or so after the season usually ends. Clubs still get the income and should not be too adversely affected

That is the case for a few clubs but it varies wildly. Not all clubs (including frustratingly SUFC) disclose their income breakdown, some are up to 45%, but you can assume it would be higher for us. Partly because we make significantly less than almost all other clubs through player sales, and partly because our income streams away from gate receipts are among the lowest in all four divisions. Think I remember reading somewhere that our average spend per head on food and drink in the ground is among the lowest in the Football League

So we're probably closer to 50/60% of income coming through the gate. We're bang in trouble.

The club can’t honestly think the EFL will allow the games to be played behind closed doors and expect clubs to keep financial stability, I don’t think even the EFL are that stupid

Manager of Arsenal been tested positive for Covid-19 and Arsenal football team gone into isolation

With Arteta now the latest to test positive, I think it’s nailed on the EPL and EFL will imminently go into shutdown or at best behind closed doors operations.

the Maths make sense if season ticket holders get a partial refund. If we don’t then they are completely fictious

Wouldn’t be that surprised if league matches get called off as early as this weekend.
Different note but can see all major sports being called off until late summer including Olympics, cycling, tennis, cricket, you name it.

They’re going to be called off in about 2-4 weeks. The government is waiting for numbers to go up towards NHS capacity levels and only then will they employ the emergency measures such as calling off sports events. They are being relatively open about this.
