Plymouth By Road/Parking

The following is from the footballgroundguide site;

http://www.footballgroundguide.com/leagues/england/league-one/home-park-plymouth-argyle.html#adirections-and-car-parking

Take the M5 to the South West and at the end of the motorway continue onto the A38 (The ground is well signposted from the outskirts of Plymouth on the A38). On entering Plymouth, turn left onto the A386 (towards Plymouth). When this road splits into two, keep on the left hand side (again signposted Plymouth) and after about a mile you will see the ground on your left. The ground is well signposted 'Plymouth Argyle Home Park' on the way into Plymouth.

Car Parking

There is quite a large car park at the ground, which is free. It is operated on a 'first in before the game, first out after the game basis'. If you are last in, then on average it takes around half an hour to clear. The car park is normally full by 2.30pm on matchdays. Please note that this car park is under the control of the local Council and if vehicles are not parked correctly in the marked bays, then you may end up with a parking ticket for your trouble. The Council Parking Wardens are out in force on matchdays, so you have been warned. Alternatively, there is some street parking if you drive past the Home Park ground, heading away from the city centre. There is also the option of renting a private driveway near Home Park via YourParkingSpace.co.uk.

Plymouth Where to Drink

The following is from the footballgroundguide site;

http://www.footballgroundguide.com/leagues/england/league-one/home-park-plymouth-argyle.html#apubs-for-away-fans

Probably the best bet is the Britannia which is a sizeable Wetherspoons outlet and around a 10 minute walk away from the ground (from the car park outside the football ground, turn left and the pub is down the road on the right hand corner). For most matches the pub which is busy normally, has a queue of fans waiting to get in outside, but this is controlled by the security staff, so you don't normally have to wait too long to gain entrance. Although away fan friendly, the pub doesn't tolerate away supporters singing their clubs songs and any who do are quickly ejected from the premises, so you have been warned. Near to the pub is normally a van selling pasties, which looked to be doing a roaring trade on my last visit. Opposite the Britannia is the Embassy Club which is best avoided by away fans. Around a 15 minute walk away from Home Park (going back in the direction of the A38) is the Cherry Tree pub on Ham Drive. A similar distance away (but going in the opposite direction across the Park) is the Hyde Park Social Club which welcomes visiting supporters (see advert below). Otherwise alcohol is available within the ground.

Hyde Park Social Club

Around a 15 minute walk away from Home Park on St Gabriel’s Avenue is the Hyde Park Social Club. This friendly Club which welcomes visiting fans for Saturday matches from 11am and after the game as well, shows Sky and BT Sports. The club has a range of draught beer, cider and lager on sale such as Carling, Worthington, Thatchers, Guinness, Wolfrock and Sharps Pilsner. In addition, a range of hot food is available too. For coach parties then cooked breakfasts can be supplied at a reasonable price, but must be booked in advance (see contact details below). The Club has a pool table and is family friendly. Limited free parking is available at the Club itself, or alternatively, there is on-street parking in the local area. The Club charges £1 to enter on matchdays (kids accompanied by an adult are admitted free). The address of the Clubs is 5 St Gabriel’s Avenue, Peverell, Plymouth, PL3 4JQ (Location map). Tel: 01752 662947. Club affiliated Coaches can drop off nearby on Hyde Park Road, but please advise Steve Lavis in advance by emailing s.lavis297@btinternet.com. Similarly, contact Steve if you wish to attend the Club before a midweek match.

If you have any comments/views on drinking in Plymouth please post your comments

PLYMOUTH by Train

Devon in August is not going to be cheap, why should it be when all those Holidaymakers head to the West Country.

FROM THE STATION

The following is from the footballgroundguide site;

http://www.footballgroundguide.com/...-one/home-park-plymouth-argyle.html#aby-train

Plymouth Railway Station is about one and a half miles away, so either grab a taxi or embark on the 20 minute walk. As you come out of the station turn right and down the hill and under the railway bridge. Just keep walking straight along this road (A386) and you will eventually reach the ground on your right. Alternatively (except for night games) then Andrew Chapman suggests a more picturesque route: 'Finally I would recommend turning right into Central Park Avenue, at the roundabout just downhill from the station on the A386. Then take the second left into Holdsworth Street, which will lead you up a steep hill into Central Park, where you'll see the ground as soon as you reach the top of the hill. It is a lot nicer route than following the roads - after all (apart from Aldershot) there are no other league clubs situated in a public park!' Chris Bennett adds; ' It's a much nicer walk than going up Alma Road and quicker as well'.

TRAINS FROM LONDON

9.03 or 11.03 (10.03 dearer) London Paddington arrive Plymouth 12.24 or 14.16 (no changes) £43.50 with Advance Single Ticket must be bought in advance.

17.55 Plymouth Arrive London Paddington 21.31 (no changes) £38.50 with Advance Single Ticket must be bought in advance. (For the adventurous there is a train at 19.20 arrives 22.53 at £21.00 advance single)

TOTAL RETURN FARE £82.00

Update: as of 31/7/18 cheapest fare now £100.10 off-peak return

These tickets must be bought in advance but can be bought on-line at the following link: http://ojp.nationalrail.co.uk/service/timesandfares/London/PLY/110818/0900/dep/110818/1115/dep#returnJump

TRAINS FROM SOUTHEND

Fares are actually quite good in comparison for the trains above leaving Southend Central at 6.50am £89.50 with Advance Tickets must be bought in advance

If you are travelling from Southend it is worth giving consideration to the coach services mentioned elsewhere which will be considerably cheaper and easier

PLYMOUTH TICKET INFORMATION

Details from the SUFC official site, and tickets can be bought on the on-line system:
https://www.southendunited.co.uk/news/2018/july/plymouth-a-ticket-details/

Southend United travel to the South West for their first away game of the 2018/19 season, and tickets are now on sale.
Blues fans will be situated in the Barn Park Stand at Home Park for the game against Plymouth and we have been issued with 500 tickets to begin with.

Tickets are priced as follows:

Adults£22
Concessions*£17
Under 18s £9

Wheelchair Adult£17**
Wheelchair Over 65/18-21 £13**
Wheelchair U18 £7

*Concessions are over 65s, 18-21-year-olds and serving armed forces with a valid ID card.

**Please note wheelchairs and personal assistant tickets are located at the front of the stand and as such are exposed to the elements.

Ambulant disabled are charged the age relevant price with a free carer if in receipt of either the higher or enhanced rate of care or mobility.

Family Ticket

We have been issued 40 family tickets, which are for 1 adult and 1 child for £29.00.

These are only available either in person at the Box Office or via the phone on 08444 77 00 77.

Please note these tickets allow visiting families with younger children access to the designated Family Zone at Home Park. Upon arrival at the stadium, you should access through turnstiles 20/21, which lead you directly onto our family themed concourse. Here you will find a number of activities to entertain your children, both before the match and at half-time. This is a mixed zone for both home and away fans.

Plymouth have also ensured that thier toilets have adequate facilities to accommodate the younger visitor, and the nearest catering outlet stocks appropriate food and beverage.

There is a limited amount of free parking within the car park adjacent to Home Park. There are designated disabled spaces within this area for Blue Badge holders but they are limited and on a first come, first served basis. There is street parking around Home Park but be aware some have permit parking only. Also be aware of the restrictions within the Life Centre car park as they do have enforcement officers who operate a clamp down on illegal parking.

Please note a decision for on the day sales will be made closer to the date of the fixture and prices increase on a matchday by £2.00.

PLYMOUTH WHAT'S IT LIKE FOR AWAY FANS

The following is from the footballgroundguide site;
http://www.footballgroundguide.com/...yle.html#awhat-is-it-like-for-away-supporters

Away fans are housed in the Barn Park End, which is all seated and covered. As you would expect from a modern stand the facilities and views of the playing action are both good. The normal allocation for visiting supporters in this area is 1,300 seats, although this can be increased to 2,022 if demand requires it.

The atmosphere is normally good and even though I have received a number of reports of the stewarding being somewhat rather strict in the away end, then on my last visit it was fine. Also, I experience no problems outside the ground and on the whole, it was a good day out.

The only downside is that the concourse can get a bit cramped, especially if there is a large away support in attendance.
