I've been playing NL Texas Hold Em for a while, but so far have restricted it to house games with between 6-10 players for £10 a game, with 2/3 games an evening.

Now I'm contemplating going to the Rendezvous or Spielers for some more action.

I see both do £10 + £1reg, with unlimited rebuys and 1 top up.

Can anyone explain the basic set up to one of these evenings i.e. times? dealers? length of time? Prizes? Any other useful info?

Does anyone have any preference between either the Rendezvous or Spielers?

Ta in advance.

I went to Spielers a couple of times, good fun and friendly enough. You do have to deal for yourselves until you make the final table which is a bit off-putting. I mis-dealt and then dealt myself Pocket Aces on the re-deal

Go with a few mates but chances are you will still end up on a table full of strangers as you have to pick your starting table and seat number out of a bag!

I guess a fifty+ player tourney could last until the early hours.

Much quicker for a single table tourney - couple of hours max?

Starts at 8.45 and you have 3 levels of half hour 25/50 50/100 75/150 with a 1000 starting stack and unlim re-buys. After 90 mins, average stack is around 5000 or so and normally attracts around 60 runners. Dealing like we would at a home game. Speilers much better IMO. Best tourny down there is prob the £50 2nd chance as you start with 3000 chips and thus allows poker rather than all in, all in, all in. Going tomorrow night, actually. It does run on though and you are looking around 2 earliest to hit the FT (which is worth it IMO) They now also do a fiver re-buy which i dread to think what that is like so will try that soon and the 20 re-buy cud get very expensive.

FRI and SAT night and s'n'g night's and majority are 20 quid 10 seater. Start with 1500 stack and 20 min blinds as i watched mike and george play in one before.

Kev

Thanks for that.

Do you get to play any sort of poker for the first 90 or is it a case of you have to be prepared to go all-in with what you've got?

So at the end of 90 mins, you then get the chance to buy another 1,000 regardless of your stack?

Might go tonight. What time you going there?

Dont get me wrong, it certainly isn't an all in fest. I think it just depends on the mood of the table and what kind of players you have on there. Last time i went no-one had a re-buy for a fair while, bar one, who everyone was taking advantage of and he had about 5 re-buys before the rest of of us had 5 put together! Yep add-on at the end is available to everyone at the end. Another point, to re-buy you must have 500 chips or less.

If you double up early on and get to 2-3000 you have lots of play its just a case of being careful.

After the break, the blinds are 15 mins so the first hour or so after the re-buy period is crucial as everyone tightens up and its a perfect time to build a stack (or go broke!!)

I'll prob be there for about half 8.

Kev, I've always played poker online and have been doing so for well over a year now but i've never played face to face with people but I am interested in going tonight and having a go.

As i've never been before, what exactly do I do? I mean like how do I register etc.

In Spielers, you go to the card room and at the bottom of the stairs is the card room boss who deals with all the entries. You pay your entrance fee and takes your details etc, then hands you a receipt. Nearer the KO, the card room manager will take that ticket from you and you select a random card which tells you what table/seat you are to go to.

In between registering and KO, you can either go back upstairs and gamble etc, or just wait at your table and chill.

You get free drinks during the poker too, something maybe to bear in mind instead of paying upstairs.

Pretty sure theres nothing else to explain.

Any questions?

Do you go down there often and do this?

Hahaha trust you mate. The free drinks and crisps are a nice little touch but its not on all drinks. Stick to coffee and ask for crisps and you cant go wrong.

Good oppo to nick some free poker mags too as well and gives you a good read during the break. As Bill says, once you reg', you get a piece of paper and on that you have a number. Try to remember it as if u do re-buy, they ask for your number and you dont wanna look like a tw&t trying to remember where u put it!!

Personal experience talking here.

I'll be down there more regularly especially for the S'n'G's come feb/march as i feel that style is better suited to my game.

Hope to see a few of you down there later.

Oh ... and dont bring sunglassses.

Well I went down to Spielers last night and managed to win!!! 1st Place = Prize Money of £700! Not bad for a stake of £20.

Thanks to all for their advice - it obviously worked. Also nice to see The General also getting 9th place (I think) and getting a payout as well!

We might get more than 6 like we used to back 6 months back. Personally, Ladbrokes is good for freeroll's and thats where i have hosted a few games before. Might try and re-kindle some interest in this the week after next and get a night organised. The old format on here was $5 or $10 tourny which kick's off at 8pm.

In answer to MS's question, it started at 8.45pm and TFS was done around 3.30am where there was about a total of an hour's break.

I came 10th and finished about 2am but things really did drag out when it got near the cash.
