Police Presence at Telford

Did I miss something here, have Southend fans become a rampaging band of nuttters? Because I have not seen such a police prescence for a Southend away game for many a long year.It was totally over the top and I suspect a lot of old bill in the area earned themselves a tidy sum of overtime based on the fact that someone thought we would be raping and pillaging our way to the game. Me and my mate (combined age 94 )were escorted to the station by a large group of police officers, Why?

The way we were met on arrival at wellington then escorted back to wellington after the match indicated they thought there would be trouble. The coppers taking us back to the station indicated that there were a lot of nutters in telford who would cause trouble for nowt.

Completely over the top. Telford a cracking little club and very friendly. Why the needed a bigger presence than Millwall I've no idea.

Well its been their biggest game since probably reforming, and so you cant blame them for being prepared.

I was asked on leaving the stadium. Are you going by train? Knowing the response, I advised I was driving, and then walked back to the station..

There's obviously a long history of bloody violence that we don't know about which makes Millwall and Chelsea of the 70's and 80's look like playground bundle. Everyone got home with all limbs in place, right?

Please confirm as I am very worried.

Same with us. We were asked if we were going by train or car, when we said car, we were "set free" and made our way back to the ccar park outsde the ground. Walked throuhg hundreds of fans, our Blues shirts there for all to see and no probs whatsoever.

For my money, if there's a few nutters in the town, then police the bloody town then and not the football ground!

We were also herded back to the station after the game, but after talking to a couple of the police, they told us that in the pub just round the corner from the station were a large number of telford 'fans' who were being held by riot police because they had just completely trashed the pub and were then going to 'meet' southend fans at the station, I for one was very gratefull for their presence, one of our officers was telling us he had watched a video of what they are capable of, he said he has never seen anything like it and was shocked, and it was him that advised the telford police to take this action, non league clubs are known to be particulary violent and unlike the bigger clubs who's 'firms' stick to beating the c**p out of other firms, telford don't care who you are and will stick a bottle in your face, man woman or child.

So I say thank you telford police, your help was appreciated, by me anyway.

By the way we also enquired as to what will happen at the replay and were told not to worry as these 'big boys' (cough cough) don't travel!!! I wonder why :punch:

On the police escort back to the station the police said that there were a group of Telford fans who were out for us, and that did seem to be the case. When we were waiting for the train a small group of hardnuts shouted at us from a bridge. When we arrived we took a wrong turn out of the station and walked past a home pub where there was a large amount of police and it looked like someone was being bundled into a van. The police presence was shocking when you think that it was only Telford, but they'd obviously heard that the Telford massive were planning something and I'd rather have a safe escort back than be attacked by some local chavs. I also heard about a pub being smashed in. I doubt we'll see any of them at Roots Hall, I think they're more local troublemakers rather than hardcore Telford fans because inside the ground they seemed like quite a family club.

Before arriving at the ground yesterday as we made our way off the M54 there were police waiting at the roundabout and on top of the bridge-which I thought was a bit strange however, once we had parked up and walked across the ground and on speaking to people we were informed there were a large presence of police as Telford have a pocket of people that were hell bent on causing trouble, especially some that were drinking in the local pubs.
On hearing this we did quickly make a call to some of our supporters that were not drinking in the ground and to tell them to get themselves over ASAP, which luckily they did.

On leaving the ground there was also a high police presence and as I was walking back to the car park I met some moron who thought it would be good fun to single me out, Yer, brave man he was, all those men and then picked on a female NOT! made some comments back to him and then was ushered along very quickly by my hubby,

Can imagine the reaction to the choice words you gave him! And your hubby's reactions!

Some Telford fan was quite literally that when me and the boys were walking back to the car park after the game.

I just dont see the point of it. We're not exactly their rivals, so why all the bother? Trying to make themselves look big and 'ard, but end up looking like dicks in the process.
