Pool Match at Rileys.

There was a pool match between The Pirates and Southend United last night. Initially a few people were annoyed that only the youth team turned up, however; Scott Malone was there, Johnny Herd was there, and yes, the youth team was there. Steve Tilson turned up. Steve chatted to anyone who approached him (as always). The big buzz for me was that these kids did not present themselves as 'Prima Donna's'. They were all approachable. Many of them played on the Wii with my sons, (3 metre screen) they came across as humans. My kids were in their element. Yes it would have been nice to see Adam and Macca and co, but it would also have been nice to see more Southend supporters. Incidentally, Scott Malone is a great person and a very mean pool player. The purpose of this post is just to ensure people/supporters that there really is life after the first team, there are some great kids who have the future of Southend United in there hands, we also have a manager who really is commited.Well done to all who attended last night, especially the players. Well Done.

I'd imagine the first team may have been more inclined to turn up had they been paid recently! ;)

Seriously, good to hear to about the young lads

Which Rileys? My lad woulda been there if he'd known.

Kay it was the Benfleet Riley's, it was in the echo and it has been a constant on the Rileys website. I was so dissapointed that these players, who have not been paid for so long could still turn out for the community. They did not have to 'entertain', but they did. Well done to them all.
