12) is it an abbreviation or shorthand, of the old abbreviation for Christ, which was the greek letters Xp (Chi Rho)?

5) Errr its not something really random is it? Like they can all be connected if you draw a straight line? Same line of longitude perhaps?
 
Aaaaarrrgggh, so annoyingly obvious! Just had a look at where the countries in 5 are.....

5) They're all on the Greenwich Meridian!
