Bournemouth v Southend, by Mark Langdon

THE talk coming out of Roots Hall suggests Southend will be taking the Carling Cup fairly seriously, and if that is the case Bet365 are taking a chance by offering a standout 11-8 about them beating Bournemouth.

Southend have not been fazed by their promotion from League One. They look sure to settle into a mid-table Championship outfit and that sort of quality is probably too strong for the Cherries.

Bournemouth make too many defensive mistakes and that weakness will be punished if Freddy Eastwood is picked by Us boss Steve Tilson. Even if Eastwood is given a rest, Lee Bradbury and teenage talent James Lawson can secure Southend's passage into the second round.

Recommendation
Southend, 2pts 11-8

I played football against this guy in a tournament hosted by the HRA (Horseracing Regulatory Authority). Hope his tipping is better than his footballing talent!

I have a recommendation for that guy who wrote that.

Look at the trend of this competition in relation to us.

I think in the last ten years we haven't progressed farther than the second round.

I wouldn't touch this bet with a barge poll. I hope we beat Bournemouth, but cast you minds back to when we played Rushden in the LDV.

Going out was a godsend really, because i dont think we'd have won the league had we progressed a long way again in the LDV.

Going out tonight wont be the end of the world will it!

Yes would be nice to have a cup run and play some bigger teams, but that old cliche of the league is more important is so very true. Call me a bluff old traditionalist!

I don't see the harm in a few matches in this comp if we can. We don't have the LDV to worry about, we don't have to worry about the FA Cup till January and we get breaks on international weeks.

True, just hope it doesn't affect our league games like Col Ewe last season in their F.A. Cup and LDV run!

I don't see the harm in winning a couple of matches, gets us into winning ways and boosts the confidence and morale of the lads. Bournemouth are not the weakest side we could have faced, so will be a tough fixture. If we win and next round tie is a little easier, then we can always introduce a bit of squad rotation, maybe give Cole and Smith a game.

If not for the LDV cup run in 2003/04, we would be looking forward to the Essex Derby at Grays by now with Col Ewes & Orient fans rubbing our nose in by bragging they are 3 or 4 Division above us!

Getting a Cup run is vital to this club, if we reach 5th round, this Club would get £1 Million in total from Gates & TV.

TTK's Tip.

Get on the draw after 90 minutes!

Could do without the hassle of E/T and maybe Pens, but i think its going to be a draw.

I hope we get a result after normal time though...
