Super Freddy can inspire Shrimpers in Essex derby

Col******r v Southend - Southend, 2pts at 7-2

THERE have been signs in recent weeks that Southend are beginning to adjust to life in the Championship and they are a value bet at 7-2 to beat Essex rivals Col******r today.
Southend have made a mess of their campaign after coming up from League One as champions, where they finished three points clear of Col******r and did the double over them in the process.
The Shrimpers clearly outclassed their neighbours last season, romping to a 3-0 lead inside 32 minutes at today’s venue, and the squads have not drastically changed over the summer.

Steve Tilson’s team have not defended anywhere near well enough, but a 1-0 Carling Cup success over a Manchester United side containing Wayne Rooney and Cristiano Ronaldo has given the whole squad a huge lift.

And they have followed that giantkilling with draws against Plymouth and Preston, suggesting a big-priced triumph is just around the corner.
Southend will have the best player on the pitch in Freddy Eastwood, while Alan McCormack is an interesting loan capture from Preston.
The Irishman will add a touch of much-needed steel to Southend’s midfield.

Col******r have been playing above themselves this season, but the run can surely not continue for too much longer.
Geraint Williams’s outfit have lost their last two games, away to Leeds and Sunderland, conceding six goals in the process and they are readily passed over at odds-on.

Southend have gone 14 league games since tasting success, but today could be worth the wait.

Best prices:

Col Ewe 10/11 (bluesq, Stan James)
Draw 5/2 (generally available)
Southend 7/2 (Boylesports, totesport)

Who's the Southend journalist at the RP then?
