Damn, it doesn't matter what time I go to bed (2.30am) and how much I've had to drink the night before (plenty). I still wake up at 6.30 even on a Sunday and well before the alarm clock which is set for 8.30 to wake up a girl I was out with last night as she is going sailing all day today and needs the alarm call as she is a woman and therefore clearly weak.

Following on from my comments on another thread and as further evidence of my dislike of all things Cambridge Footlights I give you Sandi Toksvig and Wikipedia excels again. There is so much about the statement in the next paragraph that is so wrong together with an interesting last fact. She's also friends with Arthur Smith which is further proof of an unfunny man that clearly has friends in high places. I do like two of his jokes though What do you do if you come across the CEO of Tesco's drowning in a canal? You lob the old chap out, **** all over him and shout 'Every little helps'. You can lead a horse to water but it's quite hard to have sex with water. Back to Sandi.........

She is a lesbian and mother of three children, two daughters (born 1988 and 1990) and a son (born 1994). The children were born while she was with her former partner Peta Stewart[10], and were conceived through artificial insemination by donor Christopher Lloyd-Pack.

In 1994 Save the Children dropped her services after she came out, although, following a direct action protest by the Lesbian Avengers,[11] the charity later apologised.[12] She currently lives in Surrey with her civil partner, psychotherapist Debbie Toksvig

I'm definitely camped in the old fashioned corner and whilst I have no problem with homosexuality per se I would prefer it not to be thrust into my face (so to speak) and here again the 5% of the population have an uncanny influence over the remaining 95% particularly through the media and their insistence at portraying things that are clearly NOT the norm as the norm.

I honestly don't want to turn this into an anti-gay rant and I'll delete the post and apologise if the thread gets out of control. Just before anyone gets on their high horse my boss out here in Hong Kong, is gay, someone that I have known in my industry for around 17 years and he has lived and worked out here in Asia all that time. He is American (but despite that :D ) is one of the funniest, thoughtful, intelligent and well respected men in my industry. We have had many memorable nights out over the years in the various times I come to Asia or he comes to London. Also after a meal last night the bar we were in was openly gay and was the venue for a reception for a pair that have just come back from a "wedding" in Malaysia. Whether it was the wine or not, it was a cracking end to a great night out.

As an aside he, and his (straight) boss, is also now trying hard to persuade me to carve out a more permanent career in Asia. I have to say that is very tempting as Asia is where life and business, especially in my specialised subset in finance, is really happening whereas in the US it is commodotised and in Europe it is getting that way. Hong Kong is also somewhere I could quite easily finish off the education of my non-academic but very bright (artistic and creative) children in a much more cosmpolitan environment. It is also one of the safest places I have ever been to in the world (less safe is also here if you want it and not too hard to find). It must be quite hard for Westerner's doing a few years out here before bringing a young family back to the West. My wife would also enjoy the expat life, though would miss her mum desperately. Disappointingly for some on here I think SUFC and SZFC may well win the battle. Tax rate 15%, very tempting. Sitting here looking out of my hilltop apartment as the mist starts to clear approaching Winter and already at 20 degrees is also very tempting.

Horrifically, after reviewing, my comments prior to hitting the submit button I've just realised an awful fact. I've spent months on here dissing Facebook, Twitter and the like. I've ignored the comments of ' what are you doing posting on SZ then?'. Ladies, gentlemen and transsexuals I give you the random musings of a complete hypocrite. Now onto facebook.com :p

This is well random, but an enjoyable post. You go girl I think:unsure:. Have fun enjoy go out and work there sounds like you want to as you say SZ will still be here for the random post.

Excellent read ORM, and I completely agree about Toksvig. I really enjoyed my two all-too-brief trips to HK, and I would have loved the opportunity to work out there for longer. Think long and hard before you spurn the chance!

Im impressed you think Sandi Tosvigk and Arthur Smith are part of some illuminartie cabal making the world ah err... actually i have no idea , and i thought my posts were random !

I would say there just is no such thing as the norm , artificial insemination ant really natural for anyone , but hey that's my opinion ;) (in that case all they did was take out the sex part )

But re Honk Kong , opportunitys better life , mostly better weather heck stay make your fortune young man and change the world :D

SZFC members will be delighted to learn I played football this afternoon. 5 a side on astro with a mixed back but 5 Italians vs the world. Sadly we lost and 5 minutes running around had be dripping sweat like a tap but I (just about) managed to get through an hour. Beautiful 20 minute hoverferry ride to Discovery Bay, Lantau and the trip back made even better by the fact that the sun was setting. All this for about £2.80 each way. :D This follows hot on the heels of a swim this morning. I'm determined to come back no bigger and hopefully a bit fitter than when I left. So far I appear to have lost 4lbs.

Eating plenty but eating good, eating local where I can and only eating at mealtimes. Hot on the heels of last night's Nasi Goreng (it's local enough :p) I decided to drop into a traditional chinese cafe where by a combination of pointing and nodding managed to secure myself Shrimp Wanton Noodles and a bottle of Coke, and a fork and spoon because (sadly) I've never mastered chopsticks. All this for the ridiculous price of £2 and it was delicious. Had roomservice a couple of times last week as I was working beyond midnight but as it is serviced apartments rather than a hotel you pay but you don't get ripped off (Spicy Beef Noodles about £9, Cheeseburger and chips £8 etc). There's a row of local cafe's close to work, Japanese, Chinese etc and for about £4.50 you get soup of the day, a noodle dish and a coffee (sorry I can't do green tea).

They have a card similar to Oyster on here which you can use for everything, and I mean everything. I know Oyster is going the same way but a lesson from the locals here is don't opt for the autotop up otherwise money flies out faster than you can keep track. You don't touch out on buses which is a bit odd. They charge you the full rate to destination from whereever you got on so if you only go a few stops you still pay full wack. Last night's bus to Stanley (about 5 miles or so) cost about 75p :p and the trams still only cost about 18p wherever you want to go. God knows how they manage travel so cheap with a 15% tax rate. Travel on the MTR is superb. Slightly dearer but fully airconditioned and you can walk the full length of the train.

Anyone else amused by the way ORM feels the need to shoehorn in that he was out with a girl last night? It's almost as if he feels the need to cover up the fact that the person he was really out with, was a gay man - with whom he has enjoyed "memorable nights with" in a gay bar, and so is showing us how not to thrust one's sexuality in everyone's face.

I think his a lesbian.

Either that or a lady boy. :stunned:

Hang on a minute. Where in my posts have I ever confirmed or denied whether I drop anchor in poo bay ? :p

And here's the downside of my Asia jaunt. Back in the room for 45 minutes after another 14 hour day at work and still working :(

Singapore on Wednesday for a couple of days. I can't stand the place. Too sterile (bottom end of Orchard Road excepted) and with the climate from hell. 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, 365 days a year humidity that you can't prepare anyone for that hasn't been there before.

Oh dear - after 3 and a bit weeks I have finally "arrived" in Hong Kong :(

Left work at 9pm last night, usually working to midnight or later from the hotel room on crackberry and laptop but having VPN issues that they can't seem to fix, webmail which I can't access with SecureID card on my own laptop (we've resynched the card Andee !!!!!) and I've lost the crackberry, new one today hopefully.

I popped into a bar to pick someone up from work as they go the same way as me. The rest, as they say, is history. No I won't have a drink as I'm shagged and have a couple of phone calls to make. 3am, a couple of bottles of red (Chilean merlot I believe) and a sore head later, with an 830 meeting which I'm leading. I think the Nurofen have just kicked in. Fortunately half of those at the meeting were out for at least some of the night and some of them had 3 hours drinking ahead of me.

I recommend Wan Chai, drinks are a tad pricey in some bars but the service is excellent......

Ha ha, sorry old chap but I've been coming to Asia and HK on and off for the best part of 14 years and I'm afraid Wanchai is so last year. :p I'll still be there once or twice in the next month.

A big surprise to me was seeing the smoking ban in the bars over here given the Chinese propensity for a puff. Most inconvenient. The £150 instant fine tends to keep the discarded butts down to a minimum. In most places you can't move over 100 yards without a bin that has an ashtray in the top so there's no excuse really. That's another plus. A hefty stick but a decent enough carrot.

Now effectively 4 days behind due to no laptop dial up and no Blackberry. which means all I'm currently doing is fighting fires on the basis of who's shouting loudest in between meetings. Off to Tokyo monday afternoon for the rest of the week. The zit in the beautiful face of Asia. Can't stand the place. From the time you land to the time you leave you may as well be on Mars.

Was looking forward to the whole weekend off. In work either today or Sunday, though I do have footie tomorrow night in Discovery Bay and a new slimmed down version of ORM appears to be emerging. About 1/2 a stone gone so far and though I thought it would be more than that all things considered it's not too bad.

Well helloooooooooooooooooooooo Tokyo. Back here for the first time in around 3 years. Got to the hotel around midnight so until I opened the blinds this morning I had no idea that I have one of the best views ever experienced and it was a beautiful clear sky to boot.

2 hours to get from the freaking airport to hotel. Nothing changes on that front. I missed the last Narita Express (similar to Heathrow Express though for some bizarre reason last train is 21.47 so got a "fast" to Tokyo Central which took 85 minutes !!!! If not the largest station in the world it must come close to it.

Nothing has changed. Very difficult to get around anywhere if you only speak English. Even with the office map and address and hotel map/address in Japanese prepared by the Japanese it has been "interesting"

Just got in from work at 1030 to see whether i can dial in on laptop for the first time in 10 days - i have picked up a new security card for this. Fear not it is not all work. I am meeting a very good friend of mine for a night out in Roppongi tomorrow. He assures me it is just a wine tasting evening :stunned:

Finally where the **** it an apostrophe on a Japanese keyboard ?

mine is here !!!!!!!!!!!!!!

:D

Check out the Sceptre site Tony, it has some very interestinf stuff on there, especially the div 3 topscorers list!
