Now the FA have got their, in my opinion, shamefully misjudged and cancel culture fuelled bit of virtue signalling out of the way, perhaps football can come together and resume respectfully.
Chesterfield have a definite edge in head-to-head league matches, winning 24 to our 19, with 13 draws. We have done better in the Cup, albeit not last year. Our last league visit there was a creditable 2-2 draw thanks to a pen and an own goal. A strong referee played his part and all three cautions, unusually, went to the home side. It would be good to have a similar referee on Tuesday.
Well, we can do better than that. We have the same referee, refereeing the same fixture for the second time this calendar year.
Once again, it will be Aaron Jackson from Liverpool, in his fourth season as a National League referee and taking charge of his fourth Southend match. All change - see below
The first one was our away match at Borehamwood - a 1-0 defeat during which he, not unreasonably, sent off Ogogo in addition to 4 yellows (one to Ferguson, one to Ogogo and two to them).
Next came that Chesterfield match and then, for his third match, he took charge of the last match of the season at home to Torquay sending off, again not unreasonably, Demetriou and cautioning Kensdale in a 1-1 draw.
This will be his 5th National League match of the season, his 4 games thus far producing 10 yellows and one red.
In addition to his National League matches he officiates in plenty of PL2 (development league) matches.
Assistants are Danny Jarvis from Sheffield and Reece Davies from Ilkeston. The latter is Derbyshire FA’s Referees Development Officer. Elliott Kaye from Loughton stands by as Fourth Official.
