Breaking News Released and retained players

Agree with you, credit to O's fans over any PL '****neys'. The we hate Orient thing started with the generation after me as they were never anywhere near top of the list in my day........I guess in the dark days of the 80's we ran out of clubs to look down at and call tin pot.

Agree with the first part but it was more like early 2000s it started up (in the absence of any Col Ewe matches since the 80s) after we got stuck in the 4th division with them for a few years.

Yep, I agree. Some Southend fans caused a lot of trouble before and after one game in the early 2000s, at Orient, and things escalated. The next season it was reported an Orient mob of about 60 arrived well after kick-off time and weren't even going to the match, so obviously were going to attack Southend fans coming out. The police escorted them back to Prittlewell train station, and back to London. Some of the Orient players didn't help, celebrating goals in front of Southend fans or gesturing towards them. Matt Lockwood being one of the main culprits. He loved sticking it to Southend.

Walking is about all he can manage these days, isn’t it? I’m sure Justin will give him a call if he thinks we need a sixth-choice centre back.
In fairness to Orient they do have two young centre halves in Happe and Ekipetta who are very decent players. The former is undoubtedly going to play at a much higher level. They have allegedly turned down big transfer fees for both, which far exceed our capabilities of paying.

Which to my mind is v good as we don't want Orient cast-offs, thank you!

I'm probably in a minority that actually dislikes the O's more than col u.

I always feel the orient games have more about them.

Col u always just feels a bit tame in comparison.

Although having dicked both col u and orient on the southern finals of the LDV, I still enjoyed doing orient in the dying seconds more.

Not really cast-offs if you’ve shelled out a six-figure fee for them... Good job you couldn’t afford them in a million years; wouldn’t want Happe and Ekpiteta to sell themselves short, eh?

Indeed, and this period also coincided with the emergence and rapid increase of message boards, which seemed to ruffle a few feathers on both sides and stoke up faux rivalry, not helped by us consistently playing like clowns and scoring own goals aplenty every time we played Orient, which of course bred increasing mockery.

Then of course, in the promotion season one idiot ended up with egg on his face when he posted the infamous 'a message of sympathy' thread on our Proboards forum claiming that all Orient fans were laughing at our failure to win automatic promotion. On the trip home from the Millennium Stadium a couple of weeks later I realised I had a job to do when I got in...

I’ve been enjoying the unusually prickly reception you’ve got, @Jonny_Stokes if I’m honest! But to be fair, we do enjoy you coming on here so I’m sure it will die down to the usual happy banter

We’re all a bit high on the unexpectedly positive end to the season!

The thing about Southend is we keep on surviving in FL1 without big money buys. It's good that you can afford 6 figure fees, it's certainly helped you get out of the National League. Now they can prove themselves in FL2, a delightful little place to inhabit, enjoy!

Yes, I didn't really think it started in the 80's. I just don't like some of our fans sneering down at the Fleetwoods or Accringtons of this world....Or even Orient for that matter......Gillingham yes and of course Col U.

In fact if children in Southend schools were being educated about acceptance of the LGBT community I would be fine with that.... But if any teacher extended that to include Col U then I would grab my megaphone and blockade the school gates.

I've been as guilty as anyone of Orient banter, but the thread is about released and retained players so it's probably a good time to put the thread back on topic.
