We know that nearly every cult has the leader fleecing the money from the disciples, and then taking advantage sexually of them and/or their children. They write the rules and convince followers that it's an honour for him to use their body, and for them to do sexually what he wants. Yes, it does seem to always be a man.
But I find it just as disturbing that hiding behind the mask of religion, these sort of perverts or paedo's can operate. There have been many of course, probably all religions.
The latest is Jehovah's Witnesses. They're being sued, as many victims are now coming forward. They had a self investigating policy, meaning a victim would go in front of the elders and say they had been sexually abused by members or elders of the Jehovah's witness. Their rule is that there has to be two witnesses to the abuse, which means no one ever gets done. The elders in every case would shrug it off and basically call them a liar. The family of the victim are then seen as a trouble family, and most of the victims were thrown out of the religion. The religion has a charitable status.
They are fostering abuse, enabling abuse, and deliberately not reporting abuse, in breach of their charitable status.
I'm not just having a go at Jehovah's Witnesses. Like I said, it seems to be all religions. But growing up as a child, I always thought that those that were more religious, within a church for example, were purer, and whiter than white, and good honest people. But it seems that sexual predators can hide and abuse quite freely within any religion, and get protection.
