Remembering a Fallen Hero of WW2

My father served with The Merchant Service as it was known thoses days. He always made jokes about what it was like because that was how he dealt with it but on occasion he told me some stuff that was horrible to listen to. Lets just say that going by some of the stories he came out with, that lad didn't die nicely and saw some terrible things before he did.

Brave beyond belief that a 14 year old want to do that. Can't imagine it happening today.

Got to agree with you. I'd advise anyone to see The World at War and the episode about the Atlantic Convoys which will bring home the whole horror of what the merchant men went through.

My granddad served in the Merchant Service and would never tell any stories from his time during the war
