Southend United's Under-18 side slipped to a second successive defeat, ironically enough at Gillingham yesterday. You can read a report of the match on the Shrimpers Trust website, by clicking:
Gillingham U18s 4 Southend United U18s 1
Richard Priest scored the Shrimpers' only goal of the game, his second of the season, and with Southend heaping on the pressure after half-time, for long periods they looked set to equalise. However, two goals in the last five minutes cost the team dearly. Blues' Youths travel to Leyton Orient next this Saturday in the first match of group 3 of the Youth Alliance Cup, which runs to the end of October. The next home match is at Boots & Laces on Saturday 22 September, when we host Gillingham.
Meanwhile, a reminder that the Reserves travel to Ipswich Town tomorrow (Monday) evening, looking for their second consecutive victory after a 2-1 home win over Milton Keynes Dons in August. Kick-off at Portman Road is at 7 p.m. for those of you who can sneak out of work early and head up the A12.
