THE ROCK GOD
Macclesfield jump above us into fourth place after battering Yeovil.
Sc**thorpe are 2-1 up at home to Kiddie.
Darlington 1 up at Bury.
Shrewsbury beating Orient 4-0!!

Top 5 are very close together now.

We've had some results go our way over the last few weeks, so I suppose we can't complain if most of them go against us today. Disappointed with Yeovil, but Cambs did us a favour last night.

Bury 0 - 1 Darlington
Lincoln 3 - 0 Oxford
Macclesfield 3 - 1 Yeovil
Sc**thorpe 2 - 1 Kidderminster

Yeovil - 56 / +18
Scunny - 56 / +18
Swansea - 56 / +17
Macc - 51 / +9
Southend - 50 / +8
Lincoln - 48 / +13
Darlo - 47 / +5

Everyone has a game in hand on us except Macc!

We are still there though which is what counts, imagine if we had got nothing out of Darlo and Swansea!

Still could be a hell of alot worse, we could be Orient!

If we work on the assumption that all teasm with games in hand win them we are 8th

Which at the end of the day is a bloody site better than the s**t we were in this time last year......what say you Wiggy ?

Lincoln below us can catch us by winning their game in hand, but I'm not to bothered about them and points on the board are better then games in hand.
Then you have Northampton, who have 2 games in hand but are 5 points behind us. We play them in a couple of weeks, get a result then the games in hand are meaningless.

I can't see where you have got 8th from.

If disaster did strike, and they won their games then the lowest we would be is 7th and still in the play-offs.

Not a good day for us at all, but with our current series of fixtures I think we all knew this would happen. If we can get another 3 or 4 points from our next 2 games then, with our run in, I think we still have an outside chance of making the top three. If I'd been offered 5th place at this point in the season back in August I'd have taken it, that's for sure.

Looking at it a bit more positively Yeovil are now only 6 points ahead. There are loads of games to go. It's all in our hands. A nice position to be in. Makes a change.

I make it 7th. Which is still in the play offs.

Beg to differ if you are meaning the top 7

I think you meant except Darlo and Macc however if you include 8th places then Northampton have two games in hand.

So if everyone won their games in hand the top three would be on 59 then Macc, Lincoln and Northampton would have 51 we would be 7th on 50 and Darlo would occupy 8th place.

Still not bad when you consider our initial thoughts after the first 3 games this season.

I did'nt mind that Yeovil lost, its mean that we are 6 points behind the top with 15 game to go, just image yeovil, Sc**thrope (hope we beat them) and Swansea drop points from next 2 game and we get at least 4 points & with 2 home game agasint Bury & Shrewsbury, there is an good chance we break into Top 3 and maybe push for the top place and we got Yeovil on our last home game .....

Sc**thrope still got Swansea & Yeovil to come, Swansea got some tough games coming up & Yeovil show that they can be beaten - we find out how the table shape up at end of Febs. Its time for us to make another step up into top 3.

If we beat Sc**thorpe, Yeovil and Northampton, I guarantee we'll be automatically promoted. Two of them at the Hall where we've shown ourselves to be capable of beating anyone in this leage and the other a game we have already won 2-0 this year (albeit LDV).

Our fate's very much in our own hands.

...and let's not forget that the day was assisted by Orient's result.

I guess my other post got deleted. Surely it was All League's chat?

Over the last 10 games, the form of today's top eight teams...

Yeovil are 1st in the form league and top of the league (Just! on Goal Difference)
Scunny are 11th in the form table and second in the league
Swansea are 2nd in the form table and third in the league
Macclesfield are 6th in the form table and fourth in the league
Southend are 4th in the form table and fifth in the league
Lincoln are 3rd in the form table and sixth in the league
Darlo are 12th in the form table and seventh in the league
Cobblers are 5th in the form table and eight in the league

Obviously the inconsistent teams in the top eight are Scunny and Darlo as indicated by their highlighted form [in red]. Our biggest threat looks like Lincoln and Macclesfield, but I still believe we have what it takes to maintain / consolidate our position and keep the pressure on the top three. If Scunny do slip up, we need to be ready to pounce!

Scunny have only played Macclesfield and Darlington from the top seven away from home and got 2-2 and 0-0 draws respectively, so may be up for the fight against us, but have had mixed results with teams below the top seven. Having to go away to Yeovil, Swansea, Southend, Lincoln City & Northampton (8th), will test their mettle for the remaining fixtures and this is where we can take advantage with a win on Friday.

I'm not as worried about these games as much as I am about the games against teams at the wrong end of the table. We've proved time and time again in the past that if we are playing well, we faulter against teams we're expected to beat... and beat well.

When we've been struggling, we've done well against promotion candidates and then let ourselves down against other teams struggling around us!

It's the 'Southend Syndrome'!
