My Dad died about 6 years ago and my Mum gets a bit lonely and is thinking of buying a retirement type property that has communal lounges and communal gardens. Mainly for a bit of Company with similarly aged people. Also selling up and downsizing will give her a few quid to spend.

Has anyone got parents in a similar position or in this type of property ad if so would you recommend it?

Why not have her live with you?
My parents are deader then a dead thing but if one of my in-laws died then id love to have the living one stay with us.

She wants to retain some independence, along with her dog and her budgie, so thats a non starter.

Try looking over at Kings on Canvey,my nan and grandad had a place like the kings one in galleywood and it was very nice.

I don't have any first hand experience - but I'd watch out for the service charge and bear in mind the restrictions on selling the property.

If she wants company are there no day centres or clubs to join?
