Reports from BBC Essex this morning, that Anthony Tomassi has died. Originally on the opposite side of the High Street, partially where the Royals now stands, one of my favourite places to eat, from way back when I was young. Used to be a birthday treat to go there, have one of their delicious meals and finish off with a Tomassi's ice-cream sundae.

When I was in my teens, Tomassi's helped us out with a sponsored walk too, where we stopped there for lunch, eating spaghetti bolognaise with chopsticks, for some reason!

In later times, Mr Tomassi and his wife would still often be seen popping into the restaurant or the recently added less formal cafe, passing the time and chatting with old customers.

RIP Mr Tomassi, condolences to his wife, June and the family.

 Sad to hear that.

These RIP threads are getting more and more tenuous.

I thought that!

Stop flirting with OBL you two.

What do you mean "tenuous"? Tomassi's is an absolute institution in the town and has been for decades. I'm sure there are plenty of people on here who share fond memories of the restaurant and therefore would like to show some respect for his passing.

Never eaten there but well aware that it has been there a long time, it places like Tomassi's that give a town character beyond the high street-by-numbers society we seem to live in.

Tomassi's has always been a part of the fabric of the town for me and i too am saddened to hear of his passing

kids these days eh

Good coffee in there and also much better than going to an identikit coffee shop elsewhere in the high street.
