It is with great sadness that I have to be the bearer of some sad news.

Fred Unwin passed away on 23rd December 2011, aged 82.

Fred had been a Southend United supporter since 1952.

I'm sure you'll all join me in saying RIP to a fellow Shrimper.

Went to Freds funeral today - he was a good friend of mine. A few fellow fans from East Yellows (where Fred had his seat) were there to pay their respects. Also Steve Tilson who is a friend of the family was in attendence. R I P Fred.

I have known Fred for many years as I went to school with his son. As Eaststander said, the funeral was today. Chris Powell, despite an exacting schedule today, also came down and met with the family to pay his respects.

RIP Fred. It's great to see the support shown by Steve and Chris. Well done chaps.
