It's official.A great man has passed away.We won't see his like again.

Dirt Farmer was an excellent album to go out on but he's done so much more than that.

Sad news indeed - I'll be watching The Last Waltz DVD over the weekend.
"They should never have taken the very best..."

I have to say I'm utterly ignorant of the man and his works, so I shall investigate.

RIP Levon, if two of SZs musico's rate you, you must have been special.

I'll be paying my humble respects on the show this Sunday.

The Band were an accompaniment to my early musical youth back home in Westcliff thanks to Barna's turns on the turntable. It took seeing 'The Last Waltz' with him in '78 for me to get how special they were though.

Shine on, Levon.

I love his version of Springsteen's Atlantic City off the The Ties that Bind. The Best of ..1975-96.There's also a superb version of Willie and the Hand Jive on the cd.

Just shows what little you know yet again

Joe Brown was mentioned in all the Bert Weedon obituaries that I saw as having been directly influenced by him.I'm certainly not aware that Levon Helm (or The Band)were any sort of influence on JB and the Bruvvers(or whatever backing group he uses these days).

"Singer and guitarist Joe Brown said: "I am very sad to hear of the death of my dear old friend and brother Water Rat, Bert Weedon who was a lovely man and a great inspiration to many British guitar players in the early days, myself included. My heart goes out to his wife Maggie and all the family".

Has Joe Brown ever recorded any Band numbers?
