BBC boxing commentator Harry Carpenter has died, a spokesman for his family said today.
The 84-year-old former TV sports presenter died at King's College Hospital, London, on Saturday. His lawyer David Wills said: "He had been unwell since last summer when he had a minor heart attack.
Known for his friendship with British boxer Frank Bruno, he also presented numerous sports programmes on the BBC including Sportsnight, Grandstand and Sports Personality of the Year.
'The funeral has not been arranged but will be a family funeral, to be followed by a memorial service in London.'
Mr Carpenter leaves a widow and one son.

What a shame a brillliant boxing commentator, the old breed of commentators who used words well and sparingly seem to be gradually dying out with the passing of Harry Carpenter and earlier in the year Bill McLaren.

RIP

Grew up listening to Harry's commentaries. With him and Reg Gutteridge now gone, that doesn't really leave any old school commentators in many sports.

RIP

I used to love his fight commentary - always the best balance of emotion and insight from a true gentleman. Alongside Reg Gutteridge (who paired up so well with Jim Watt) we had the best boxing commentators in the world.

RIP Harry

Well said, you put it far better than me. I actually quite like Ian Darke on Sky, along with Jim Watt or Glenn Mcrory they make a good team. The ones on BBC or ITV are just hopeless though.
