The West Wing

The West Wing is an American television serial drama created by Aaron Sorkin that was originally broadcast from September 22, 1999 to May 14, 2006. The series is set in the West Wing of the White House—where the Oval Office and offices of presidential senior staff are located—during the fictional Democratic administration of Josiah Bartlet (played by Martin Sheen).
The West Wing was produced by Warner Bros. Television. For the first four seasons, the executive producer was Aaron Sorkin, who worked with Thomas Schlamme. After Sorkin left the program, he was replaced by John Wells.
It first aired on NBC in 1999, and has been broadcast by many networks in several other countries. The series ended its seven-year run on May 14, 2006.[1]
The show received positive reviews from critics, political science professors, and former White House staffers. In total, The West Wing won three Golden Globe Awards and 27 Emmy Awards, including the award for Outstanding Drama Series, which it won four consecutive times from 2000 through 2003. The show's ratings waned in later years, following the departure of series creator Aaron Sorkin (who wrote or co-wrote 85 of the first 88 episodes) after the fourth season, yet it remained popular among high-income viewers, a key demographic for the show and its advertisers.

If you judge a show by the accolades it wins, then the West Wing must surely be up there amongst the greatest of all time. The first series of the West Wing still holds the record for the number of Emmys won by a TV show in a single series (nine), which is also the record for the number of Emmys won by a TV show in its debut series.

If you haven't watched it, you should. It is gripping, beautifully written, moving, funny, fantastically acted and entirely believable. It's the best thing I've ever watched on telly.

Vote West Wing!

:)

all square at the moment! Remember though if it finishes level, the contender with the best arguments wins.

Nice pics Matt.

Lets face it, CSI Miami was probably the worst of the franchise but still produced this little lovely.

The hugely popular "CSI" is no less than a contemporary entertainment marvel. Finding its stride in season 2 with a formula which pushes the envelope while still being doable, this series packs ample portions of entertainment into 40 minute episodes while staying fresh, delivering palatable doses of science didactically, and, most of all, manifesting a strong sense of social responsibility in all of its subliminals. While most entertainment aims for the crotch, the gut, or the heart, "CSI" goes for the most difficult target, the head, as it teaches forensics and the empirical process while remaining cooly detached from sensationalism and melodrama all the while using the "truth is stranger (and more interesting) than fiction" thesis to its and our advantage. The results are fun and interesting lessons in everything from dwarfism to Down syndrome to anatomy to ballistics to etc. all the while maintaining a social conscience. Whether explaining how S&M is not necessarily perversion to simply dissing Don King, "CSI" is one sweet sugar coated education with solid mainstream values.

Very surprised to get through that round, what with being up against such a worthy programme. Cheers for the battle Matt.

I'm a huge, huge fan of CSI and probably would have voted it ahead of The West Wing, just about, but the fact that The West Wing could possibly go out to Buffy the fricking Vampire Slayer is scandalous.
