The last time we played at Spotland was also on Good Friday two years ago. That went rather well (we won 3-0) and they are doing their best to recreate that happy event by sending the same referee !
The man in charge once again will be PE teacher Jeremy Simpson from Carnforth in Lancashire.
That previous match saw a yellow for Hurst and three of theirs, including Lund and there were few complaints about his performance.
He is in his 4th year as a League referee and finished his non-league career by refereeing the 2011/12 Blue Square Premier League play-off final between York and Luton at Wembley. Prior to that he was an assistant referee on the Premier League and also a FIFA official.
He has only refereed Southend just that once but Rochdale have played 6 games with him in charge (2 wins, 4 defeats).
I've never seen him but he seems to be doing pretty well with some good Championship appointments this season (including Hull v Middlesbrough). His 29 matches have produced a slightly high 102 yellows and 5 reds.
Assisting will be David Richardson from West Yorkshire and Darren Strain from Runcorn with Simon Mather from nearby Manchester acting as Fourth Official.
