RON: CANCEL THE REST OF THE SEASON

It’s really quite simple and the experts said it on last nights briefing. The timescales depend almost entirely on how closely the British public follow the given advice. Now we’re having the police being criticised for being too “harsh” .. well if you’re not doing anything you’ve been advised not to, you’ve nothing to worry about. Be thankful it’s not the army.

and over here we have to have a Government - issued form filled in each time we go out. This form has to be signed and timed and only allows one hour MAXIMUM outside and always alone. The police inspect them and if for any reason you shouldn't be out they fine us 135 euros. Second offence is now "up to" 1500 euros and any further offence can earn you a massive fine PLUS up to 6 months jail! One bloke was jailed for 4 months last week, so it's being enforced here. Personally I think UK should go exactly the same way.

Good grief. Experts aren’t soothsayers! What the hell do you expect from these people? She gave an honest, nuanced answer that calibrated the potential for lifting restrictions between elements of society returning to normal and some folks (such as the elderly and those with underlying medical conditions) likely taking longer, potentially 3-6 months. This is in an environment where there is a brand new super contagious killer disease on the loose worldwide, next to no immunity in the population, no vaccine and no cure. What the hell do you expect for her wages?! She and her colleagues are doing a bloody amazing job in unbelievably challenging circumstances!
Don't you just love the righteous?
Have answered this three times already, but one more won't hurt.
'Nuanced'? So anywhere between three weeks and six months is nuanced? If that's subtle, then so is a tractor.
What I would have advised as her press officer is: 'We're still evaluating the data and trying to work out a timeframe when we might expect to return to something like normal'.
Instead, that 'six months' was seized on by the media, and I don't blame them.
How do you know she's doing an amazing job?
Here's a different POV.
Actually, I think the press officer should hand over some of his/her wages like Barcelona.
BTW, love the line 'experts aren't soothsayers'. Clearly, they're not.

One other reason why it is so difficult to apply a timeline to this in the UK is because there isn't a clear indication of the actual size of infection in the community, where it is and modelling its spread. This due to the small number of tests still being undertaken.

The government have yet to hit 10,000 tests a day while somewhere like Germany (with a very low death rate) is testing around 500,000 per week.

So now Wimbledon gone (no prospect of tennis matches possible at end of June), Champions League, Europa League postponed indefinitely, all football national team games in June have also been postponed, including play-off matches for Euro 2020 - already postponed to 2021 - and qualifying matches for the Women's Euro 2021.

In contrast I expect Prem/EFL to announce this week putting back the restart 19/20 season by another two weeks- a continuation of the death by a thousand cuts policy as they chase the £££££.

Meanwhile Premier League clubs have been accused of living in a “moral vacuum”...

Pressure building on the football authorities to make a decision.Guess loads of conversations taking place with lawyers as to what course of action to take, but in the meantime many clubs up and down the UK bleeding money left right and centre.I pray that we have a club to support when this nightmare is over.

It is too early to say if there will be a next season and if there is what form it will take. Football as we know it may be a completely different animal bearing in mind the financial implications of an extended lockdown.

They need to make a decision very soon. The longer this drags on the more damaging it becomes. At least if the season is voided the clubs know where they stand and can try and make arrangements. They need to know asap so the can sign players and have an idea what their budgets may be like.

The Belgian Pro League has become the first major European league to be cancelled due to the coronavirus crisis.

Brescia in Italy saying they would rather forfeit matches than countenance returning to complete the current season..

What was the last game of the season.

All April games wiped out, presumably with the intention of playing our "last" game first, and then playing catch-up with the other fixtures.

Significant progress has been made by managers and coaches in negotiating pay cuts and wage deferrals in response to the coronavirus pandemic, the League Managers' Association has said.
