Roots Hall development

With plans for as many as 10,000 houses over the back of the Angel pub and worse still moving the schools from Southchurch Blvd..... I wonder how that might influence the decision.

Puts a huge strain on the immediate roads and will increases the traffic getting across town

There is a lot of scare tactics going on with planning.
Their (councils) idea is to convince folks of the necessity for a new road route west to east across the town. This all follows on from the failed attempt to push through the widening of Priory Crescent by cutting a segment off the park
Both SBC and RDC are wanting to get a public desire for a new road near Eastwoodbury Crescent and Warners Bridge to Sutton Road.
It would be so much easier if we had councils that could be trusted, open, honest and transparent.
Pigs might one day fly.

That road has been planned for over 20 years. They should have done it before the airport opened and the stadium would already be built.

That is my point, the nimby elements have held sway and after the Bell interchange is finished the council will state, correctly, that ALL has been done AND it isn't enough etc so the "new" 20 year old plan can get moving.

Priory Crescent, Cuckoo Corner, The Bell. Tescos roundabout and the roads re-routed around the Airport. All that money and it wont solve anything. The obvious and cheaper option was always a new road. Half of it could have gone on airport land and then down the side of Temple Farm industrial site and onto Fossets Way. Could have had all the Airport parking in the field next Temple farm, which then becomes the stadium overflow in the winter. With a simple electric/mono rail connection from the football stadium to the the airport.

I learnt along time ago, that not solving problems is a real nice earner for certain groups. SBC seem to specialise in failure. Every pointless committee, with endless meetings and pathetic little power struggles is at our expense. That why it ends up with corruption because its the only way you can get anything done.

Here are the revised stadium construction dates as released yesterday.

We have at least two more years at Roots Hall with construction of the three sided stadium starting next summer and finishing a year later. Construction of the main fourth stand starts summer 2023 and the whole stadium will be completed by summer 2025. Cynicism aside, we have to be optimistic.

I am sure that this has been mentioned before but Sports England have to be consulted and their view has to be factored in.

Each council has a register of football pitches / facilities & their, SE, their normal approach is that a like for like facility has to be in place before demolition of the old facility like say Roots Hall is vacated.

Ground share won’t likely be considered

It looked today as if new windows were being put into the flats on the "pizza" shop run near the Fairfax Drive traffic lights? I thought all those places are coming down with the development?

And I saw in the stadium that the Alton Garden Centre hoardings are gone, I presume they are no longer sponsors? That is a shame as they have been backing club for 30plus years.

There were also a number of vacant slots in front of the West Stand. Nice to see some new ones elsewhere though.

Might still be a sponsor, but they might have taken the advertising fown whilst they hot new ones. I think it has said supporting Southend for 25 years for about 6 years now

I don’t think that row of shops is part of the development. On the plans, I’m sure they’re still there. I think mr pizza man pushed Ron too far, and instead of a fat payday and move his shop somewhere new he’s going to end up with no payday and no match day clientele. I don’t blame him for trying, but it looks like he lost out big time as he didn’t recognise when the best deal he was going to get was on the table.

We were talking about this yesterday, wonder how much the £ the shops will get from the residents in the new flats compared with match day revenue. Hopefully it works well for them.

Got to be better to have an extra couple of thousand residents in the area 7 days a week than an extra 5000 people 20 days per year

Yep, he's staying, per the plans below. His loss.

Though I wonder what the plan is for the other shops that we've already bought and decorated so nicely in navy blue? If they're no longer needed, presumably Ron (if he owns them) will put them up for sale/rent at some point?

Thanks @North Banker , that makes it clearer.
St Mary's Court and shop parade to remain! Iirc they were both going on the Sainsbury era plan.
And the factory at the south of the main car park, by Roots hall Drive has been demolished now.
Things are gathering pace I hope.

I doubt Ron's offer was generous or would have been paid on time to be fair to them.

Seem to recall hearing he was offered around £1m but turned it down
