Just been reading about Roy Pack, who Rowley gave a trial to after his release from Oxford. That trial was against Serie A winners and European Cup QFs Fiorentina, talk about in at the deep end!

I am sure that he was injury prone and thats why we did not sign him . That season Southend were crying out for a commanding center half , it was not until after Christmas when Rowley signed Geoff Barker from Hull . Everyone expected Barker to sign for Southend but he signed for Darlington . It worked out well for Southend because they signed Darlingtons Brian Albeson who was one of the best center halfs the club has ever had .

Yep LCBB72, he didn't play a League game for Oxford due to an injury. He did well for Portsmouth in Division Two(Championship nowadays), playing 91 games. So Rowley gave him a trial. but the injury had ruined him. So he never played again for a professional club. So 1965-1970, and sadly it was all over for Roy Pack.

Yep, Brian Albeson, great centre half. I also remember him scoring a few goals for us.
