Had a thought on the back of the Julian Bennet situation, where he was injured by a deliberate foul and is now out for 6 months. terrible luck on the lad, and also terrible luck on Southend, given the financial constraints we're under.
I used to think that it would be interesting if, when a player is injured by a deliberate foul, the player that commits the foul should be suspended for the duration of the time the injured player is out. But that would be too open to abuse. Imagine Palace's Joel Ward being 'out for the season' after Van Persie went shoulder to shoulder?!
So I thought of an alternative. How about the club of the player who committed the foul covers the wages of the injured player until he's fit enough to play again?
Thoughts people?
