Breaking News sad news

very sad news have just been told former blues man bobby kellard passed away last night

Very sad. He played, at the age of 17, in the first Southend match I saw over 60 years ago.
I also had the pleasure of refereeing matches he played in over at John Burrows on a Sunday morning as he wound down his career.

"I had a long footballing career and played for a lot of clubs but I hadn’t even played the game by the time I reached the age of 11.

My mother died when I was seven and my father moved to Australia so I was brought up in London by my grandmother.

I learned nothing at school so it was just as well my teacher took me to watch a boys game of football.

One of the players had to come off with an injury so they sent me on. I hadn’t ever played football before and didn’t even know the rules but I was the best player

Sad to hear. I played a couple of games with him at John Burrows in the Sunday league and you could tell he was different class to the rest of us, even though he was not the fittest on the pitch.

Spent a couple of holidays on Hayling Island when I was a kid and Bobby did the soccer school. Good Times. R. I. P.

RIP Bob I knew him quite well up to a few years ago . He had a tough time lost 3 of his grown up children to a degenerative disease . Lovely guy had loads of football stories of when he played against the Charltons and Bests and one particularly story against Leeds Bobby Collins
Great guy !

Very sad to hear this. As a young boy myself, watching Bobby play when he was a teenager really inspired me to work on my game. Sadly, I didn't have his natural talent. RIP Bobby you will not be forgotten by us older shrimpers.

Did he have a shop? I regularly trawled around second-hand and antique dealers in the Southend area during the nineties, on my returns from France.
It was some time ago, but I think Bobby had a shop on the corner of Westcliff Park Drive and Fairfax Drive.

Thanks. I didn't go down that way often, maybe there was a problem parking with the van? I had a number of shops I visited but of course, the problem was, these types of shop often appeared and then disappeared rather quickly!

It was the early/mid 80's and I only sold to him so he collected. I remember having a couple of his business cards at the time which had an address on them. Can't recall what it was though.

Another article below, with quotes from his son.
I didn't know, but apparently he was the first professional footballer to be sent off on a Sunday.

Such sad news, I played with Bobby in the Vets league for a couple of seasons with Hadleigh Crown team and he was great both at football and a person. Also went on a jolly boys outing to Cheltenham horse racing and he was a great laugh.
RIp mate a sad day
