From a DRFC Forum;

The campaign to allow standing in certain designated areas of stadia was given a major boost this week when the 100th. MP signed the early day motion laid down by Mike Hancok, MP on 15 November 2006.

His well-supported motion reads;

STANDING AREAS AT FOOTBALL GROUNDS

That this House urges the Government to re-examine the case for introducing small, limited sections of safe standing areas at football grounds; further urges the Government to recognise that there is widespread support for such areas, and that improvements in stadium design and technology mean that with rigorous safety specifications standing areas could be safely re-introduced; and calls on the Minister concerned to convene a meeting of representatives of the police, supporters, Premier League clubs and the Football Licensing Authority to find a way forward.

If you wish to encourage your local MP to sign or support this motion you can contact them via http://www.writetothem.com/.
Ministers cannot sign Early Day Motions so several of our local MPs would not be able to add their signatures for that reason.

Totally agree with this. I cant see the harm in having well controlled terraces.

After all if the first 10 rows behind the goal were terraced then there would be little chance of having crushing etc.

Dont think we will ever see whole stands terraced now but see no harm in designated areas.

Not for me though, like my seat too much

This has probably been covered elsewhere but does the picture of the new stadium appear to have a terraced area behind one goal or are my eyes playing up?

Where have you seen pictures of inside the stadium?

I'm despeared to have a look !

I spoke to RM about five years ago about the possibility of safe standing areas and he categorically stated that there would be no chance of such areas being included in a new stadium for Southend United.

So, I'd say your eyes are playing up ...

I also spoke to him about the possibility of installing 'kombi seating' in the new stadium, a facility in which safe standing areas can be easily converted into seating areas when required. However the cost (at the time) was about £80 per kombi seat as opposed to about £20 for a normal seat; no chance then ...

100% agree with this because the stewards are old bastards who criticise you for supporting the blues! Where's the logic in that?

Really? Where's the evidence of that?

Aside from the safety aspect, I suspect that they are actually trying to enforce ground regulations on behalf of the football club by ensuring that fans remain seated during games. I'm not entirely convinced that such action is aimed to stop fans supporting the team!

We might be old bastards, but we love the power.

Now sit down and shut up... there's a good boy.

Cheers.

Quite the reverse; it's a section of seating in the 'sunshine'
Sunshine? I think you're wrong, Mike. The artwork is for a stadium in Blighty... not our Med-toe-dipping sunshine paradises.

no, i am definitely correct. I copied the picture and after removing the shadows in photoshop it is plainly a terrace:
