Match: Saffron Walden Ladies B vs Southend Utd Ladies
Venue: Catons Lane, Saffron Walden
Kickoff: 2:00pm
Conditions: Mild and Dry
SZ Reps: “bluesbloke” and “Southminster_Shrimper”
Well, after a few discrepancies in the satnav system guiding us to Saffron Walden, bluesbloke and Southminster_Shrimper eventually arrived in good time for the latest ladies match. Although with no sign of any players we were wondering if we were in the right place. Some probing of the opposition team, by bluesbloke, provided us with the answer that we were indeed at the correct venue.
So off went Southminster_Shrimper to create an impression as usual and setup the 3 flags in the away stand. And shortly before kickoff it was time to unveil the latest item to cheer on SUFC Ladies…..yep it was time for the bambams….even the ref seemed to enjoy them..
Anyway, on to the game….
25 minutes in and a mix up between the SUFC Ladies defence and keeper allowed Saffron Waldens forward to nip and slot the ball home. This wasn’t the start we had been hoping for. At this point we were concerned that the boo boys may start but I just told bluesbloke to keep cheering.

Saffron Walden Ladies didn’t hold the lead for very long though as 5 minutes later and SUFC Ladies are level. A delightful pass from Amy, over the top of the Saffron Walden defence, which sat up just nicely for Alice to volley it home into the back of the net leaving the keeper with no chance at all.

With 35 minutes gone, Saffron Walden have a corner and just like the SUFC team we concede a well headed goal. It was a decent enough header but perhaps SUFC Ladies may have done better at clearing the ball.

In the closing stages, another corner and this time its cleared off the line by Amy. That was close.

Second half and it was pretty much all Southend Ladies.
On 60 minutes Danielle is through on goal with the defence chasing back, unleashes and fierce shot only for the Saffron Walden keeper to tip it over the bar.

With 70 mins gone and not to be outdone a second time, Danielle is in on goal once again this time making no mistake by tucking the ball neatly into the bottom corner.

Then as in the first half, only five minutes elapse and Southend Ladies take the lead for the first time in the match. Alice in on goal and from the edge of the penalty area lets go with a powerful shot. Clearly it was too well struck for the keeper as it goes straight through her hands and drops into the goal.

As Saffron Walden try their best to get back into the game, on 80 minutes they have one of few chances from a dipping shot from all of 25 yards which leaves the SUFC Ladies goalkeeper struggling to get anywhere near it. Unfortunately for Saffron Walden the ball crashes against the post and is cleared by one of SUFC twins to safety.

All in all, some excellent goals from Southend Ladies and a good performance all round. Southend Ladies could have had a few more goals with some decent chances in the second half. However, some decent saves by the Saffron Walden keeper kept them in the game.
Lady of the Match: Alice
Reason: Good play in the forward line, always a threat and
scored two excellent goals (especially the first one)
And finally, we were both applauded by the team for our excellent efforts today which was noted with much thanks ladies..
