San Marino

Sterling hasn’t changed, if he could finish his chances he would be one hell of a player, greedy is too kind.

Either San Marino have got better or we have got ****ter. What happened to the massive scores against them? The 7’s and 8’s.

It looked to me that GS just wanted to win the game comfortably without over-stretching. Kane was on the bench, for example. Winning by a cricket score is all well and good, but that could have come at a cost. IMO it's better to canter to a 5-0 win than go all out for 7s and 8s.

That way GS also had the chance to effectively use the game as a friendly and experiment.

Their keeper did play well. I thought it showed that with Lingard and DCL we didn't have a clinical finisher in attack. I don't think DCL helped his chances even with a brace, and while Lingard offered a lot of energy and off the ball movement he isn't world class. Watkins took his chance well but won't ever get that much time. Chilwell and Reece James were very impressive and James is rightly keeping TAA out of the squad.

A lot depends on if Southgate is going to play 4 or 5 at the back. I hope he continues with the 4. as we created so many overloads even against a defensive San Marino (who credit to them stuck to their plan very well and played with discipline and shape).

Think I'd look at a first XI like this:

Pope
James Stones Maguire Shaw
Rice JWP
Foden Mount Sterling
Kane

Shaw could be swapped for Chilwell. Henderson could come in for JWP in the future (who's worth taking to a tournament as a set-piece specialist).

Is Grealish out of the picture now or injured.

We made a load of changes at half-time - taking the excellent Sterling and Mount off in particular - and didn't look nearly as effective after the break.

If you're 3-0 up against part-timers at half-time you should be scoring 7 or 8 when they tire second half. England took their foot off the pedal though.

Yes,we played ok,done the job.
All the "biggish" teams will get to the finals easily.
Thats when Englands problems will start
But did anybody watch our U-21s???? Awful...Adi "HOOFroyd" !!!!must be the worst manager ever

Saw the first two goals before `her indoors` changed channels for Elizabeth R which to be fair was far more interesting - then saw Watkins goal - the commentators seemed to be bigging up a performance that looked to my trained eye - crap

very true TUIB, sadly remember all those times.
Been to Poland a few times,England won all three(one being an u-21 game) also sadly at that game,in the stadium, when they did not close the roof...like 80% of the England fans, had to go home and did not see the game played the next day
