Sad news a true Southend legend 483 League and cup games from 1950-1963, RIP.
451 League matches a Southend record that will never be beaten.

Last time I saw him was at the SUFC History book launch around 1991?

A very good left-back ,right on into the 1960s.Hadnt realised he lived on Canvey.

Could take a decent penalty for a left back too.

Here's an idea - the gates that lead into the East Stand Car Park? How about we rename them "THE SANDY ANDERSON GATES"?

The club can have that for nothing.

I never saw him play, and as far as I know I've never even met the guy, but I still feel sad. It's very rare that someone stays with a team for that long. The closest we have come since is Kevin Maher. For people in my position (not having seen him play) it is worth using KM as a guide: that is how long SA had been a Southend player, with all that entails. One hell of a long time.

To stick with the club through thick and thin (more thin than thick given it's SUFC) shows a rare level of loyalty.

RIP.

Am i making this up or did Sandy make an appearance for Southend around 30 years ago in a testimonial match at Roots Hall , maybe for Alan Moody ? i know i was very young but was aware that the elderly gentleman playing right back was a record breaker and a real southend legend..

I think there was a separate 'legends' match it could well have been at Alan Moody's testimonial in May 1983.
