What, work 16hrs a day at the barrel of a gun or starve to death? Didn't think you'd b backing communist China.

If I support British steel, does that mean I'm condemning the Chinese to starve?

Also, if you have a link to the purported fact that work 16 hours a day under gun point can you please share that with us.

I would but their press freedom is a bit limited under a totalaranism state.

Oh, I'm sure they've got great working conditions to be able to pump out steel thats cheaper than cabbages.

While have the greatest sympathies for those who have lost their jobs, I cannot help thinking that this light idea is a sentimental way for people to think they are contributing and helping the steelworkers without actually doing anything.

Equally, the petition is completely pointless - if WTO laws will not stop the Chinese government from dumping, then I very much doubt that a petition held at a Scunthorpe United match will have much of an effect.

I will have sympathy for the steel workers of course. But I still vote for Tories, as I will never vote for Labours with that clown in charge!!

What are they?

"Steel itself is vital for just about everything we use. Whether it is buildings, clothes, chemical, cars, lamps or drinks cans - all depend on it at some point."

There are plenty of "niche markets" in all of the above industries (as well as the precision engineering, aerospace and armaments industries, which have been mentioned elsewhere on this thread).

Sickening how many Southend fans have an "alright by me jack" attitude. Assume you lot walk past a homeless man and think "crackhead" and walk past council estates and think "lazy spongers". Need to wake up and see what is happening.

Seeing as I was born in a council house and have been homeless, I'd say I am pretty much awake to what is happening. Market forces, WTO regulation and EU legistation are the main reasons that steel plants in the UK are failing.
