Echo News Shaun Hobson is voted Southend Unietd's player of the year

Well deserved....went from liability to good ability as the season progressed.

I'm not sure he was a liability. Was ok the first couple of games, then partnered with R Taylor and I reckon the world's best was struggle next to Taylor.

He performed much better with an experienced CB, first Dieng and then White - still baffled why MM stuck him at RB for a couple of games!

I wish someone had a list of previous winners.
It might put this award into some sort of perspective.

four forwards in 30 years!

Very surprised by this, he is an awful CB. Definitely improved during the season, but it’s relative and his first 10 or so performances were abysmal. He looked “okay” next to JW, but that was more due to White than him. How anyone thinks he is a EFL standard defender is beyond me.

Who is Stan Collymore?

Don't hear much of him these days.

Awful? As far as league 2 standard goes he can easily hold his own, add some distribution rather then row z at times and hes got a lot going for him.

Fair dos, each to their own. I’m struggling to think of a worse CB who played 30+ games in a season over the past 20years.

Also, looking down the POTY list he stands out as the worst player by far.

Says a lot about the rest of them this year!

Keith Dublin and Mark Beard I’d say were pretty poor POTY’s. Hobson’s not set the world alight but he’s exactly what we need in the National league, as in no nonsense, clear your lines. I’d say he’s exactly what we need, I’m not sure hoards of better CB’s are going to be lining up to sign for us. I’d be trying to sign him, Cordner too.

Id prefer Cordner in NL. Hobson is a liability; any footballer who stands still in the box and let’s the oppo waltz pass to score should be nowhere near a professional contract.
