From BBC News

The manager of Shrewsbury Town, Jimmy Quinn, has resigned. The decision comes as the team struggles at the foot of League Two, propping up the Football League. Here's Jo Garvin:

Jimmy Quinn said it was a difficult decision - particularly after the success of last season - but he had to put the interests of the club and its supporters first - and felt that now was the right to bring a fresh approach. The club Chairman Roland Wycherley said the parting was with "tremendous regret". The board of the club said while it was obviously concerned about the current league position it would be "forever indebted" to Jimmy and wished him every success for the future. Chic Bates has been put in charge for tomorrow's game with Southend.

How many times has a manager quit the day before his team plays us? And how many of those games did we go on to win?

It's not just us though it seems to happen everywhere in football, a new manager comes in every player has a point to prove and so does the manager.

Not the best of news on that basis but still optimistic about tommorrow 2-0 shrimpers!!

Spiff, the "

" would indicate that you have the stats. I have no idea... so would you care to share the info?

I'm happy for you to quote the figures back to the last 50 years only.

It happened to Billy McNeil shortly before we played Man City in the League Cup in 1986

It also happened to Billy Bonds shortly before a pre-season friendly against Wet Spam in, I think, 1994.

Something about names ending in a 'y' then.
