As many of you are aware, we've been planning a major upgrade to ShrimperZone for some time. Rather than a minor tweak here and there, the upgrade will see a significant number of new features, widgets, gizmos, bells and whistles for all of our users and a whole host of stuff for us owners to play with (better publishing for our website pages, blogs and articles, and better tools for dealing with spammers for instance!).
Because of the major step forward in the software and the fact that the release is still hot off the press, we've been waiting for a further release to allow other users to flush out some of the bugs in the system before going live on our site. Unfortunately, many of the sites who have chosen to press on with the upgrade have been suffering from errors, crashes, time-outs and lengthy delays. We've had a few ourselves lately, so we all know how frustrating it is.
Even though we'll be just upgrading from one version to another, there's still a huge amount of work to be done on the back-end, so we only want to do this once.
Having spoken with our hosting company / tech support providers, we've taken the decision to postpone the upgrade until the beginning of next season. This should see a new (less bug-ridden?) release from vBulletin which will give us all the new toys we damn well deserve but without the frustrating issues. From what we can see of the system, it's going to be well worth the wait.
We'll keep you updated, but rumours that we'll be playing in Fossetts Farm before we get this thing off the ground are woefully exaggerated.
Cheers.
