According to the FLP, we're interested in signing Akinola from Braintree.

But we face stiff competition from Wolves, Peterborough, Millwall, Cambridge, Bristol Rovers & Carlisle.

Braintree have already turned down offers (not sure who from)

23 year old winger.

8 in 60 for Braintree, having scored 4 in 20 this season. 15 in 46 for Harrow in the Ryman Premier and a loan spell at Boreham Wood. Called up for England C in May.

On paper, he doesn't stand out massively. Anyone know any more about him?

Interesting write up on him from pre-season here and a clip of a great goal he scored at Bristol Rovers for Braintree http://m.stroudnewsandjournal.co.uk..._will_light_up_the__Vanarama_National_League/

I'm more concerned about assist stats for a winger than how many goals he can score. Our current wingers get into a position to cross but then hit an aimless ball that is easily headed away.

He was as outstanding as Jason Williams was poor in that pre-season friendly in July. You can't take too much from friendlies but I understand from my sources up here that his biggest issue in the past has not been his talent, but his consistency. By all accounts he is starting to show regular ability rather than just glimpses and this is what's led to the interest in him.

On his day he's a very exciting player.

Looked very good pre season. Willing to take on a man at every opportunity and was very pacey. I have seen a few of his goals since on TV and he has something about him. Be a great signing imho but this is southend. When was the last time we picked up exciting talent from non league?

For a club with a supposedly good scouting network we don't do an awful lot in our region.

Braintree would not want a lot. Maybe 25k would secure him with add ons.

Isaac Layne :smiles:

Isaac Layne :smiles:

Isaac layne was different, he was playing 2 leagues below Simeon Akinola. Simeon plays in the vanarama national where there are only 5 part time teams left in there, the other 19 clubs are full time. Isaac was playing against part time bin men.

In fact Isaac is doing pretty well where he is now to be fair. Granted, it maybe a poor level. But still...

Good point(s) about the difference in leagues ........... but it is still a very big leap from Conference to Division 3.

But if you don't try then you'll never unearth a diamond ............
