Sloppy Seconds in the NHL

A marvellous story from the NHL this week.

Sean Avery, renowned mouthpiece of the Dallas Stars and ex-boyfriend of the rather lovely Elisha Cuthbert has been suspended for this comment ahead of the Stars' game with the Calgary Flames, who feature Cuthbert's current beau, Dion Phaneuf:

“I’m really happy to be back in Calgary; I love Canada,” Avery said. “I just want to comment on how it’s become like a common thing in the NHL for guys to fall in love with my sloppy seconds. I don’t know what that’s about, but enjoy the game tonight.”

Avery has drawn wails of self-righteous indignation from the hockey mad Canadian media, but I think this is absolutely hilarious.

Inappropriate moment to include a sneaky snap of the laydee in question?

Six game League suspension for Avery. Punching someone in the face gets you five minutes in the penalty box. Crazy.
