Our first away fixture of the season sees us travel to the outskirts of Birmingham and our second ever visit to Damson Park, home of Solihull Moors.

Last year's visit was memorable only because it was the game when Ron Martin decided it might be a good idea to go down to have a chat with our travelling fans, mid game, as they'd been chanting for his resignation. The stewards and police decided this wasn't such a great idea and escorted him back to the stands!

The 2-0 defeat was the 7th game of a winless run following the opening day win, Phil Brown's last away game as manager and a throughly miserable experience all round!

There will be a maximum of 3 survivors from the matchday 15 involved this Saturday (Arnold, Hobson, Bridge) which again underscores the turnaround in the squad since the 3 Amigos took over.

Neal Ardley's team has done a decent bit of business over the summer, they lost the striker who scored against us for Boreham Wood on Saturday, but replaced him with Josh Kelly, the striker we were also trying to sign over the summer. They've picked up a couple of defensive midfielders from Oldham and Daggers and also a veteran left back by the name of Ben Coker.

They finished last season in third place, eventually losing the play-off final to Grimsby after extra time, and last Saturday's opening day 4-1 win at Mark Molesley's Aldershot (with Coker scoring the 4th goal) would seem to indicate that they'll be a force to be reckoned with again this season.

Pages have already been written about our disappointing opening day defeat, and so thoughts will turn naturally now to how we bounce back in what will be probably one of the most tricky away fixtures this season. The full extent of Jake Hyde's hamstring injury is yet to be disclosed so I've included him in the squad, however it seems unlikely that he'll be available. At the time of writing that leaves Chris Wreh as our only fit out and out striker which surely won't be the case come Saturday (hence leaving the dots in the squad list).

Jason Demetriou sits out this game and Tuesday's visit to Halifax so again it looks like the back 5 may pick itself, unless Lomas is now fit enough to start and Kev fancies shuffling the pack.

So who would you choose to start our first away game of the season, and what do you predict the result will be?

A little bit earlier than usual, this thread is now open for business!

Pretty simple for me.

Arnold

Taylor
Hobson
Kensdale
Lomas
Ralph

Husin
Miley

Mooney
Wreh
Powell

Picks itself pretty much for my money. Appreciate some may prefer Fonguck over Husin but I think Noor adds a little more steel in the middle which will be needed for this one.

Can’t see us picking up any more than a point if even that but I don’t think we will be embarrassed (he says hopefully)!

I think with what we have (but hoping a loan can strengthen) I’d go for

Steve
Crowhurst Hobbo Kensdale Ralph
Taylor Miley
Mooney Husin Powell
Wreh

But assume we will stick with 343

pretty sure the team picks itself here really

Steve
Hobson Kensdale Lomas
Taylor Miley Fonguck Ralph
Mooney Wreh Powell

Maher simply has to start Powell ahead of Bridge.
Not sure this is fair, Jack didnt get the ball on Saturday and is still our best player at beating a man 1v1. Powell runs around a lot but does not have the ability on the ball nor the intelligence that Jack does.

Thought Powell was poor when he came on Saturday, but he did raise our energy levels (I will give him that).

I would argue that for Powell to start, it should be in place of Wreh, who could not trap a bag of cement on Saturday

Powell was definitely not poor on Saturday. Changed the game when he came on in my opinion

People say Powell has no end product. Jack Bridge had no product on Saturday.

subs: WREH, CLIFFORD, FUNGUNK, LOMAS, COKER

(*) insert any stop gap big lump striker- it doesnt matter who it is , but they need to be able to ruffle a few feathers, challenge for headers + put themselves about a bit. The ability to stay fit would be handy. Without a big striker , the ball will continually come back immediately + we will lose every game . Its a simple last piece of the jigsaw - sort it out Kev/Darren/Mark/ Stan/ John ASAP. Thank you

Powell or Bridge?
We are goal and shot shy, we have been for a long time. Bridge can be tricky but he won't take a shot on often enough and I am not convinced he knows the role he is required to play as he is not a forward, not a winger, not a central midfielder and not a defender. Of late he has been a poor Jack Payne/Wordsworth luxury.

I understand Crowhurst was VERY close to starting against Borehamwood.

If he does play at Solihull (baptism of fire that personally I wouldn't do) then I would move Taylor in to a DCM role with just one up front being Powell or Wreh.

If not then I would go with

Arnold
Taylor
Hobson
Kensdale
Lomas
Ralph
Miley
Fonguck
Mooney
Powell
Wreh

Subs

Andeng-Ndi
Crowhurst
Bridge
Clifford
Hussin

I would play very defensive. Solihull are a strong team, it'll be hot and poorly attended. Let's play for a point, as boring as it is.

Arnold
Crowhurst - Hobson - Kensdale - Ralph - Clifford
Mooney - Taylor - Miley- Husin
Powell

Powell's pace can attack on the counter. Clifford and Crowhurst do not attack, Husin and Mooney can do that when needed.

Also given we don't have a lump down the middle Powell provides our best out ball- his pace means more than once Sat he got on the end of balls down the channels that others wouldn't.

What about Fonguck alongside Wreh? He seems to have a bit of height about him?
