200+ miners killed in a mile deep coal mining collapse in Turkey.
For a town where mining is the job then the deaths and sorrow of the whole community must be overpowering.
To be a mile under ground, trapped while the tunnel collapses and the oxygen runs out must be horrific.
Cheaply mined coal imported into this country has "done" for our coal industry at a huge cost to the lives of other less protected workers else where and environment issues at the supply source regions; where standards for both are far less than in the UK to get the "low" cost.
I have been to a working deep seam coal face and believe me it as hard a place to work as you would ever dream and I would have to think more than twice to do it for a £1000 a day.
Rest in peace to the miners.
If you Tories and later New Labour who have shafted our miners, families and blighted communities have difficulty sleeping that is how it should be; shame on you.:angry:
