I remember flying from Southend to Liverpool to watch us play Everton in the FA Cup many years ago. It was a chartered plane and was full of supporters and directors. I do think the club should explore the possibilities of similar arrangements for our big games (especially cup ties) up North.

And I remember flying up to see Blackburn v Southend - again a chartered plane. At the time Blackburn had money to burn, were moving up the league(s) ................ game was 2-2 I think and even featured commentary on Radio 5 (I think).

Fast forward a few years ............... and Southend are playing Blackburn again!

it'd be a god send for me, my nearest train station has a direct line to Manchester airport so I could feasibly fly to home games rather than face a 6 hr round trip, that's if we get a second flight on a Saturday of course

Not wishing to dampen your enthusiasm, but I would of thought train from Brigg to Manc airport waiting for plane disembarking and the same in reverse is likely to be more than a 6 hour round trip ??

When I move to near Leeds it will mean a drive to Manchester, fly to Southend, walk to the ground, match, walk back to airport, fly back to Manchester, drive home, done.

Probably find out the price of the flight will be £200. Bugger.

I can't see it being that much Ken. I'm guessing £39 each way is probably about right.

I don't personally agree. If you live near to these airports it's easy. I know a lot of people who check in then go home for an hour or so. Also (Southend Airport) you're through the gates in about 5 minutes after landing. Would defiantly be a lot quicker.

Persumably because you were responding to a post by Devil's Advocate ............................

Indeed if you live near the airport. But Brigg to Manc. airport is over 2 hours on the train !!

I'm all in favour, I live 2 minutes walk from the airport with plenty of space on my driveway.
Discounts given for car parking for any Southend Utd fans

I had one delayed flight a few years ago from Dublin into Southend Airport where I thought I would miss the game. Landed on the runway at 2.45pm and was in my seat in the South Upper before the match kicked off. It's an awesome little airport.

Not so near for me but almost as easy - bus to Billericay, train to airport. Majorca runway ---> front door - 4 hours 7 minutes. Woosh!

Good guess! Had a look yesterday for a midweek flight in early November and came up at £76-£80 return.

I will probably try and get to a midweek game for the experience of flying to an away game. When you consider the coach is probably about a quarter of the price. Or if you are taking a car full for about a £10 a head.
