Morning all,
As part of Southend Cricket Week - Southend Cricket Club (Officially SOSEMT) are playing a cricket match against the Blues on the 2nd August (5.30pm start)- I understand that Luggy & Neil Harris are sorting out the blues team but I don't know the full side.
I believe that entrance is free & there is a bar in the pavillion.
There are matches every day next week including a match on 31/7/12 featurng Graham Napier as part of the Chairmans XI .
If I can find out any more info I shall update as & when.
Thanks.

Apologies folks - I knew I'd forget some vital detail - As my learned friend has said - it is Southchurch Park.

That was what I assumed but you never know these days! Thanks, will try and get over for it.

There was a small article mentioning the game in the Echo last night - It's a 20-20 match & there will be a marquee with a bar which will be open throughout the match - There is a bar in the pavilion but this subject to some closure times so that players can have their tea etc -Once the game has finished & players changed etc they will be meeting supporters/mingling afterwards. A large compliment of Blues players/ officials are expected to be attending . I notice we've got several games before next Thursday - fingers crossed both for the weather & no injuries.

This sounds awesome (other than the 5:30 midweek start time).

How I'd imagine our starting XI to look

1. Harris - RHB prolific opening batsman. Often seen backing off to leg to open up the off-side.
2. Clohessy - RHB scrappy right-handed batsman in the Mark Pettini mould (minus the silver tongue). Excellent runner between the wickets
3. Barker - LHB steady accumulator. You won't see many big shots, but he'll just tick along nicely
4. Timlin - RHB classy shotmaker in the middle order. Not much power, just timing. Specialises in pretty 30s and 40s.
5. Phillips - RHB - wields a long handle
6. Coughlan - RHB/his right-arm bowling may be more medium pace these days and only used in emergencies (otherwise he'd be stiff for weeks after) but still a lusty late order hitter
7. Bentley??? WK - don't know enough about, but maybe his mum does tea?
8. Ferdinand - RHB/RMF started out as a batsman but now a promising right arm medium-fast with a really consistent action, who already seems to know what lines he needs to bowl. Just need his body to develop and he should be able to add a yard or two of pace on.
9. Prosser - LMF. Once a tearaway, now has learnt to reign that in and bowl probing 4th stump lines at a medium-fast pace. Prone to the Yips though.
10. Mohsni - RF tearaway quick who sprays it both sides of the wicket but can be absolutely deadly. Resembles Andre Adams (or maybe Tim Southee) with the bat. Possible option to promote to pinch-hit.
11. Hall - LFM mecurial left-arm swing bowler

Bowlers used
1. Hall
2. Ferdinand
3. Prosser
4. Mohsni
5. Coughlan

Obivously lacking a spinner as that's otherwise a bit too one dimensional an attack. I'd be hoping Hurst might be a wily operator in the middle, able to deceive with a nice bit of skill.

I suspect I'm probably the only one who'd be more intrigued as to how our squad fares as cricketers than as footballers.

That is quite an awsome line up - I have spoken to one of the guys organising this & it seems that a name missing from your line up - (probably in place of the errant Mohsni) & maybe just the answer to your spinner dilemma is that of a certain TWB Sturrock.

There is only one possible answer to the Spinner problem, and I'm surprised YB overlooked it....

TWB????

I reckon Blair would definitely be a leggy if he was a cricketer, but he's (a) Scottish and (b) no longer at the club.

No new players included in my line-up as I don't know enough about them. I reckon there will be some pretty decent cricketers in our squad - but also quite a few won't know one end of the bat from the other.

Not sure what TWB Sturrock is, but there is a certain visitor from down under over at the moment who is best described as "Spinner"!

TWB are the cricketing initials of "The Wee Birdie".
As for the Spinner - he can't make it as he has a Prior commitment.

There was a brief announcement about the game at half-time during the Ipswich game the other day . Mentioned that Neil Harris would be playing as wicket -keeper & that indeed Luggy would be taking part in some capacity. Looks like the weather will probably be ok.

Blast from the past. Me, playing for Southend Police v SUFC 1970s......caught Peter Taylor bowled Arthur Rowley 0!!! Good luck with your match and enjoy.

Who were our star performers?

I suspect it might be a bit optimistic to have highlights up on Bluesworld.
