To be honest, I didn't think we missed him that much.

Mulgrew came in and plugged the hole admirably for a debutant. He got pulled out of position a bit too easil when Gray came on but then with Orient effectively playing 3/4 up the need for our wingers to track back was paramount which we didn't do well enough. Seemed to get caught on his heels a few times but this is often symptomatic of a lack of games. Going forwards, Mulgrew showed good determination, strength and awareness. Promising debut all in all.

In terms of set piece delivery from wide areas, I thought they were consistently excellent from Gower and with our 4 6'+ defenders to aim at along with Revell, they looked very threatening all afternoon. I don't think we had a direct free-kick in shooting range so no test for Gower there but overall, I don't think we missed the little Scot's delivery.

As mentioned in the previous paragraph, aerial presence was something we improved taking Hammell out and putting Mulgrew in. Both from attacking and defending set pieces and against long diagonals.

All in all, we didn't miss Hammell anywhere near as much as I suspected we might based on that performance. If we can get Francis in line with the rest of our defence then we will look much more solid defensively.

was really concerned when i saw hammell had gone back to scotland and wasn't sure if we would get a replacement in time. thankfully we got mulgrew even though it is only on loan. but it was a loan signing that deffinately had to be done as there was know way hunt or barrett could play there for the rest of the season, so was very pleased we got an actual left back in. didn't know anything about mulgrew before but my views on him were very positive. he's tall, big in the air, good going forward, can put in good crosses, can tackle. see how it goes and hopeful a chance we could sign him.
