Back in 2001/2 Southend United agreed to support an amputee team. This was a great statement from a then Division Two side. We were blessed with an England international as manager Campbell Coe and the then England Goalkeeper Graham Clarke. I ended up as Chairman of the Club.
We trained at Boots n Laces and played fixtures there as well.
below are a few images of those times.
below is yours truely in action against Ipswich (disabled team) Campbell in action against Brazil in the World Cup and Southend united against Sierra Leone national side, who we beat 2-1 at Boots and laces. The then Southend first team along with Steve Tilson cheered us on!
Unfortunately Campbell passed away at the age of 29 in 2005, he succumbed to cancer.
I ran the team until 2006 when it became difficult to fund.
