SOUTHEND United’s involvement in the National League Academy Cup was restricted to a single match as Hampton & Richmond Borough earned a penalty shoot-out win following a 1-1 draw at Burroughs Park this afternoon.

This was a home match played this afternoon at Wakering's ground. Why was this scarcely publicised, other than a couple of easily missed academy tweets.

Our coach said "they were the better team, they were the hungrier team and they looked like they wanted it more than us". The other team being better is one thing but not "wanting it" is inexcusable.

Another Cup run comes to an end; I'm expecting great things in the Trophy and the Essex Senior Cup.
