Echo News Southend United boss Kevin Maher fears for welfare of his players

I am not surprised, they have given so much and been treated like absolute s#¡t by the 🤡

I am feeling very down tonight, Kev and the rest of the boys must be so sick of all this, just remember we are all 100% behind you and we will be till the bitter end 💙 thank you all 👏👏👏

Yep....... So infuriating, but there's really nothing you can say that hasn't already been said countless times. The answer lies with one man. One man who appears to be deaf but is certainly dumb.

Writing from Melbourne Oz so not sure of OH&S rules in UK.
As the OWNER surely the rat has an obligation to ensure his employees (players) can complete their employment (play football) in a healthy and safe manner. A small squad would make this almost impossible.
Obviously the rat is only interested in money but what are the legal ramifications if this continues?

He couldn’t even be bothered to ensure they had basic welfare facilities at their day to day place of work, an MP had to get involved to force this. The bloke doesn’t care about anybody other than himself and ££

I said exactly this in reply to Chris' post match tweet yesterday. We know Ron clearly doesn't give two hoots about the players' mental and physical well-being, but surely the league has a duty of care to them? Cav will continue to run through brick walls for us, but there's not many others out there that have that ability, and the vast majority are now playing with injuries.

I get that there has to be a punishment for clubs not paying bills etc and 16 players max stops us having a bigger squad than others and not paying debts. However the NL must have this wrong. Not allowing a team to field 16 even if youth players has got to be wrong. We are hardly going to get an advantage by using non-contracts or existing youths.

I agree totally (as a York fan).

I mean logic dictates that the Youth Team Squad are your players.

You aren't 'fiddling the system' by using your own players.

The duty of care should fall under both the club (the Rat who doesn't give a sxxt) and the League which you are playing in.

One thing I will say, years ago when York City were first relegated to the Conference, there were dodgy goings on. Forest Green Rovers were reprieved, I think twice, from being relegated due to their Chairman (not Dale Vince it pre dates him) being on the Conference board. I think one club which was easily midtable were docked exactly the amount of points to finish 4th bottom, so that FGR escaped. Allegedly.

And then you have more recently the COVID19 attendance / lottery funds distribution fiasco.
Where some clubs made money out of COVID19. Borehamwood, as an example, which just so happens to be the MP area of Oliver Dowden who was the Secretary of State for Digital, Culture, Media and Sport who were responsible for the money. Allegedly.

The Conference / National League... you get the picture. Sadly.

Yes, I've seen a programme about the covid handouts, can't remember if Dorking benefitted or not but am sure I remember their owner being very prominent on it so presume they didn't.

This 16 player limit, duty of care, injuries and emergency/ temporary replacement players is a minefield for club and league; especially with covid doing the rounds again.
When next a team has to postpone a game because of unavailable players a precedent will be set.
And suppose we have non registered players lined up and training with us read to go won't that also negate the league's punishment agenda?
Any oppo that looses points to us, or has games postponed to play a stronger SUFC later in the season will feel hard done by, and aren't teams like Fylde being semi"gifted" lucky points as we are distortedly weakened.
A right mess.
