Echo News Southend United boss Kevin Maher reveals seriousness of Matt Dennis' hamstring injury

Sounds promising - who would have thought a month ago we would miss Dennis!!

A fairly typical injury for someone with his attributes and taking into account the amount of minutes he has had recently, after being shunned by Brown.

Let’s hope he’s back ASAP.

I do feel we need to be thinking about adding to our squad with another quick attacking option though. Let’s see what Kev and Co have up their sleeves.

Hopefully, its the matter of him feeling a bit tender after training and not that he's pulled up at some point

Sounds more of a precautionary measure rather than anything more serious which is obviously good news. To lose Dennis and Murphy within a week would be a huge blow

For those that can't be arsed to fight their way through the ads, here's what Maher said:

SOUTHEND United head coach Kevin Maher is hopeful Matt Dennis will soon be back in action.

The on loan Norwich City youngster, who has scored four goals in his last six games, was forced to miss Tuesday's 1-1 draw at Aldershot Town with a hamstring problem.

But Maher feels Dennis could be fit enough to feature at Dover Athletic this weekend.
"Hopefully it’s not too bad," said Maher.
"We’ll be back training on Thursday and we’ll see then where he’s at for the weekend.

"It wasn’t too bad but I wouldn’t risk it.
"Hopefully he will be ready for Saturday but if not we’ll address that."

Thanks for that R.H.B.

We all know that hamstrings are tricky little feckers - trying to rush a return can lead to an even longer delay .......... but the good news is that catching an issue quickly followed by appropriate treatment can reduce the time out injured. Let's hope it is the later.

Does anyone remember at the start of the season when Brown told Dennis off for not telling anyone that he was carrying a slight knock and then it turned into a full-blown injury?

This might be Dennis listening to his body and responding to a slight twinge
