Echo News Southend United in talks with striker and chairman Ron Martin hopes to clear embargo next week

Yes theres a reason we are the worst team in england WE DONT PUT THE BALL IN THE NET!! and u want us to sign another hard worker who cant score? Arent u fed up of players coming to our club who cant score? I most certainly am.

There are of course loads of 20 goal goalscorers to choose from...

Yes. Surely it would help all our players score more goals if we were able to retain the ball more often in the final third of the pitch?
I understand what u are saying but let's start with what we really need right now and that's a proven goal scorer, then after we can think about the final third of the pitch and the best way to retain the ball.

Again, you're taking one statistic and making it the be-all-and-end-all. What if during that time the team averaged, say, 2-3 goals a game and won, say, 75% of their matches? What if without him in the team those numbers dropped off dramatically? Would you still say he's not worth it?

Ian Benjamin didn't score that many goals, but he laid on nearly all of Brett Angell's. Together they were fantastic.
Look at his record, the stats dont add up even akinola scored more in one season then andrew has his whole career.

Simeon Akinola got 16 goals last season. Oh wait, we can't register him. Cheers Ron!

So what you are saying is we already have the goalscorer you are saying we need. (Akinola) So bringing someone else who can set him up would be a big help.

All this is pretty moot until we get the embargo lifted anyway.

“Three players, Kaz (Sterling), Ash (Nathaniel-George) and Emile (Acquah) will continue to miss out on Tuesday due to Covid,” said Martin.

"Sim (Akinola), Sam Hart, who is expected to be match fit, and perhaps a new striker with whom we have been in discussion could all very soon be available.

“Maybe in a couple of weeks Kyle Taylor should also be recovered from the tweak to his hamstring too.

Ron should be doing the managers pre-match press conference ...

Certainly MM didn't say anything much different in his pre-match briefing. But then how could he?https://www.southendunited.co.uk/ifollow/latest-videos/

Perhaps the only difference was some comments about us being in Tier 2.

The striker is currently training with a Lge one club and it’s up north somewhere big lump, apparently he has other options but we have offered him more than the Lge 1 side ? hasn’t got back to us yet tho offer was made Sunday

The thing is, even if it is a good offer any player will wonder if their salary will be paid on time on a regular basis.

And why on earth would a proven goalscorer come to us? If they were proven and had nothing wrong with them they’d be going to a much more secure club. A proven EFL goalscorer with no injury/age/attitude issues is simply not an option for us.

If Calvin Andrew was that bad he wouldn’t have lasted in the Football League until the age of 33.

I thought Fortune was a great player. Always gave 100% commitment. We need a player like him now. Yes we need to score goals but we also have to keep it in their final third as well. We have players like Olayinka and Taylor who could push forward and weigh in with some goals as well. Get someone to hold the ball and bring these guys into it. We need to get bodies in the box as well. Pointless attacking wide if nobody has committed to run into the box, hence why we have to go backwards and sideways.
